Slipper clutch noises
 

Mine makes a grating noise when moving onto first gear. Is this normal? No problems with changing through other gears or finding neutral.
It's an STM.

There have been a number of similar posts about slipper clutches ...it seems you are not the only one suffering kav

Sorry mate,I'm one of the viewers too.'Bin riding 20 odd years and never felt the need for a slipper clutch.Might be better off posting in the 916/996 board.:)

Next time you post a technical question, do a search first to see if it has been dealt with previously. There is an old post from a week or so on this exact issue. Just search for "slipper clutch", it is the Ducati Corse thread.
BTW it is normal.

My previous bike , 748R had a slipper clutch and yes they do make grating noises as you pull away , perfectly normal

Do I miss the slipper clutch ?.......I have only unsettled the back end on the 999S twice so far by selecting too low a gear for the revs :( but that's twice more than I would like , I think a slipper will be this winters mod :sing:

I have the DP/Bucci branded lightweight slipper clutch fitted.

There was a thread recently on the 998 board recently about clutch take-up noise.

Same noise on take off and when giving it some stick a definate slip, but a little more worrying.....

I stripped it down this weekend for a clean and further investigation re clutch pack components. It is assembled as per the "road" pack in the literature. I.e. 1 convex plate at position 2.

However the basket is showing wear on the drive face caused by the action of the steel plates on the alloy body. I wonder if this is preventing a smooth transition from dis-engaged to engaged and the noise/slip is generated as a result of the plates not having "free" movement?

I feel a little word in the dealers ear coming up - they told me the standard clutch pack would be ok, mmmmm....

Slipper mechanism works a treat tho.

My slipper makes a noise too.
But a friction plate MUST be fitted first to make contact with the back of the clutch basket or you will ruin the entire clutch.
This was on the advice of ducati, jhp and others.
