Chip for cored cans

I'm in the process of coring my cans, all stripped, just waiting for the bits from AA16 to arrive now.

The engine (93 888) is standard apart from that. Do I need to replace the chip, and with what?

I've read loads of posts and articles on t'internet on this and am just confused!!:puzzled:
Any first hand experience from you guys would be very helpful.

Thanks
Andy:)

PS. Its not for more power, just dont want to damage engine

Mine had the SP silencers and airbox lid cutaway. The chip was "888SPO-038B".The "B" refers to open pipes.
Id give JHP a ring, the chips are not expensive.

I've got cored cans and an open airbox....not near the bike at the moment but it fuels really well, no idling problems, no low speed hiccups and no flat spots I'm not near the bike at the moment. Tell you tomorrow what the chip is. If it's the same as aka.eric's it's gotta be a safe bet.

JHP are indeed the place to speak to,but you need to know if your bike is fitted with a p7 or p8 ecu,as the chips can't swaped between the two.

Thanks guys,

If the chip wasnt changed, what potentially could happen?
Am I right in thinking it will run too lean?

Is there a jhp website or has anyone got the number?

Oh and how do I tell P7 from P8

Thanks mate
I'll give them a call in the morning.

Thats a P8 Ecu, yes?

aka.eric 23-May-2006 23:26

According to the books the P7,IAW 043 was used 1988 to 1993(to #000507).The P8,IAW 435 was used 1993 to 2000(from #000508).
The ECU in the 888 I had was labelled IAW 437?

Mr. R 24-May-2006 00:14

Hi, the ecu in aka.eric's picture is a p8,you can tell this by the large "blob" of white silicon, that looks like a child has been playing with the toothpaste tube!
The p7 has no such "blob",it's the only way to tell easily by eye.
