Whips and chains

I lied about the whips but it got you looking!

I'm in the market for a new chain but not quite sure what to go for, can I have verdicts on:-
O rings
X rings
Plain roller
Soft links
Split links please

I know it's difficult for you lot, but try to keep it clean and sensible, thank you.

I use 'O' 'X' ring and soft link, there a bit stiff when cold but soon warm up.

It comes with both sorts of links, I use the split link.

I use O or X ring, which ever is cheapest.

I use EK chains, usually off Ebay for about £40 to £50.

Started using split links after a failure at Oulton last season from a rivetted link and have had no issues since.

Having helped setup and maintain 4 DD bikes, 3x583's and 1x620, over the past 5 years, always fitted plain race chains with soft links, never had one fail. The main thing is the fitting of the soft link, always measure the original link and fit the soft link to measure the same, I have always used a Chain Whale to fit them. Maintenence, is key to the longevity of a plain chain, it Must be lubed after every race, practice, qualy etc, otherwise the pins and rollers will dry out and wear, leading to failure.
