suspension adjustment

bike seems to be riding really well, and I got the tape measure out today to check the sag

front:
static 40mm
loaded 72mm

rear:
static 20mm
loaded 45mm

think I may need to make a few changes!

is it as simple as upping preload, or should I be adjusting compression too? I sent an email to Dan Kyle and he suggested I should back ALL the preload OFF and let the suspension adjuster take care of it, but that sag should be 40mm F/30mm R, but this is the opposite of everything I've been told before re my weight on a bike (I wonder if he confused pounds with kilos!)

like I say, seems to ride ok.....yours, confused.....

Your weight requires that you change to a stiffer set of springs to retain both proper ride height and adequate suspension travel.

A quote from a previous thread I posted...........

'On the suspension front, have struggled since new with the bike pushing on in slow corners (understeer) and a few other guys felt the same....... anyway thought I would solve it with higher rear ride height and more preload on the rear as I felt I was too heavy (13,8) and that there wasnt enough weight on front etc etc.......took it the JHP for service last week and went through it with them and they say the opposite and have fitted a longer rear spring, will get full details when i pick it up saturday saying that in fact the rear is too hard and hence there is too much weight on the front in slow corners and hence pushing it on....... and they know what they are talking about........ so will give verdict after blast this weekend! Will also post suspension settings Birdy as they are going to set it up for my weight!'

.............. anyway that was last year and it is perfect!!!!!! Hope this may help mate!

cheers, I need to set up the sag first but havent got round to it yet. Sounds like its probably right, I think the answer will be a heavier spring but with very little preload. To set it as is, I reckon I'll have to dial a way load more in!

Off to the Ring in less than two weeks, may take a couple of spanners for running adjustments!!

probably get it done properly when I come back, may have the front spings changed too

Another option Paul, is to ring Chris Taylor at K-Tech or drop him an email.
