998/998s/998r Ecu Wiring pin outs
 

Are there any wiring gurus out there (or any one who has taken the 998 ECU wiring loom apart?)
My question is there any wiring from the ECU pin 20 and 29 on the body connector (grey connector). Even though these pins are not used on the 998 they form the Can communication on the later Ducatis (999 onwards). I am hoping to use these wires to wire in a race dash and it would save hacking into the original connector wiring to connect piggy back wiring.

Fairly sure there are no wires on those pins, I have no record of any colour codeded wires for those pins.

Thankfully they didn't fit the CAN system to the 998, although the bi-directional CAN on the 1098 and 848 seems to work OK, I do rcall a few problems with early 749s and 999s

Thanks for doing some leg work for me Skidlids. I'll look at a Fiat harness first before I start hacking into the loom.
I'm installing a Nemesis 2 ECU with can link

Yesterday evening I started writing an article for Pronto on fitting a Nemesis type 1 (Superbike) ECU to a Class A Desmo Due race bike.
Hopefully it will work out all right, only a couple of pins on the ECU to look out for, namely Neutral and Oil pressure switch connections.
Then it will be down to fuel and ignition maps

I'll need to stay in touch with you skidlids as I am fitting a type 1 also, with a AIM dash for the CAN link. So like you will need to swap 14 and 23 pin outs (Neutral and Oil pressure switch connections)as well as connecting CAN wiring to pins 20 and 29. Any info/photos of your operation would be helpful.

I had both the body and engine connectors apart on my Race bike last weekend but couldn't find away to remove the pins without risking damage.
The locating brackets are easy to remove, then I leavered out the sides of the connector cover and slid it forward away from the cable entry, that allowed me acces to the back of the pins, but thats as far as I got

Yesterday I called in at Senna3's Alfa and Fiat specialist and talked to his business partner Simon who is a really well clued up auto electrician and when I mentioned it to him, he just said good luck.
I told him that wasn't the answer I was after as I was hoping he could tell me how to do. To that his reply was that he hadn't managed it yet

I have seen tools that facilitate the withdrawl of PINS from from connector blocks. They push the barbs down to allow pins to be withdrawn. Never looked to see whats needed to do Ducati Stuff.

Proper specialist electrical component suppliers can supply such tools, CPC, farnells, RS maybe.

An alternative might be to source some OEM type pins and snip wires and carefully pull the pins through, thats pretty much the last resort though as its easy to damage the connector block.

Not sure if this will help or not as I've never messed with Ducati Wiring beyond bodging up my own sidestand cutout bypass that lets the bike run on the sidestand but cut if you leave the sidestand down and select a gear, done a few car engine/ECU looms.

Not cheap but it is the first time I have seen these for sale and only 30 miles up the road, I did but a Temp/Map sensor connector off them a couple of weeks ago and they didn't have them for sale then.
