200 on 1098? Has anyone tried fitting a 200 section onto the 1098 standard wheels? Will they fit on the bike with a hugger & any idea how they might affect the handling? |
I have honestly no idea what width the 1098 rear wheel is, but last year i popped a 200/55 D211gp on my 996. It rasied the rear by a significant amount - enough to make the bike turn in quicker, but the tyre was curved over too much, enough to ensure that i couldn't possibly get to the edge of the tread even on trackdays. I'd suspect as a result the contact patch was slightly smaller but the tyre gripped so well that i'd not had any slides at all in the dry. I'd not fit that size again - i've used 190/55's in the past and they seem ideal...but last year a set of scrubs - two rears and one front from t'bay for £47 was impossible to resist! |
You've answered my main concern on whether they would foul the swing arm. I believe the 996 had 5.5" rims & the 1098 has 6" rim so the tyre should fit better. |
think it's the same - i had a 6" marchesini rear.... |
The RSV4 special runs a 200/55 on a 6" rim with the option of dropping to a 190. So the 6" rim must be OK. I never get to the edge of my tyres anyway & was only looking at 200/55 because these are expected to be the main size of scrubs this year. I'll buy one and see how it works for me. |
