Fork dive

Had my first trip of the year on my 998S. Cycle cat bar risers have made a huge difference ....

However , after not really riding it that much last year, I was reminded of another "issue". (please note other bikes are GS ADV and a Buell M2).

When you hit the front brakes, and perhaps because they are so effective, the front of the bike dives ... to the point where it feels un-nerving.
I'm heavy ... 125 kgs, and preload is wound in ... Does anyone have any good suggestions re set-up. In theory the bike was set up re rebound and compression when I bought it from Forza italia.

It sort of ****es me off ... or do I just have to get used to it again. Or is the issue really that the brake feel is a little wooden ( to me it allways feels like they are an on/off switch)

Preload's not the thing to play with here, try increasing compression damping, and if you have that at max and it still dives too much for you try a heavier oil.

Strange that you notice the dive, as to me the 748/9** chassis dives less than any other.

I'd go along with the advice from Mr S.
The preload won't cure the problem. Use the preload, front and rear, to set the sag up. You want the bike to settle about 25mm (ballpark) when you sit on it.
Turn the compression damping up to lessen the dive. It's the one in the bottom of the forks.
If my maths is right, at 125kg, you may need to have the forks and probably the shock resprung and revalved to get the best out of the bike.
Give K-tech (01530 810625) or Kais (01942 896366) a call.

Pieman

How about posting a few piccs of your cycle cat bars, I would be interested as I`m thinking of fitting some to my 998.
