What happens now with Donington?

The lease holders, Simon Gillett's merry band have gone bong.

No great surprise, they couldn't raise the ££££, and had no income from the cricuit as they'd dug part of it up.

Dont forget the fact that Tom Wheatcroft has also died, whichmeans it could be tied up in his estate for some time.

One wag this morning suggested that Bernie should come along with a few million to put it back to what it was - trouble is what would the conditions be?

Chef 18-Nov-2009 18:12

I reckon Palmer will buy it

I would if I was him & had his ££££

YMFB 18-Nov-2009 20:51

I dont suppose palmer has access to the £ right now either, banks are not likely to be helpful.

Chef 19-Nov-2009 11:48

Point taken but for a bargain basement price & with their assets I reckon they could put a deal together - maybe a joint venture.....

WeeJohnyB 19-Nov-2009 12:33

Local residents must be happy. Golf course? Airport extention? Great super moto/rally car tarmac/mud track at the moment no doubt. Someone will come up with some readies - they have to (please)

Not sure who is gonna take it on though. I wouldn't be so sure that Jonny Palmer's mob would want to rent it. They own Brands, Cadwell, Oulton and Snetterton (they have big plans for Snetterton) and a big autodrome at Bedford.

Donington

No Bike GP
No car GP

Jonny P's mob wouldn't pay for World superbikes at Brands this year so why would they take it on if it came with Donnington?

Other Issues

Whinging locals (noise surprisingly enough)
**** access for really big meetings, I know I've sat in the Queues.
Noisy neighbours, the airport.

I really hope it does open again some time in the not too distant future, a great circuit.

Not sure how the ownership is currently set up but maybe Tom's recent passing does make things a bit more complicated.

Whatever, will there be any racing or trackdays there in 2010?

What happens is that all these ideas of making money in a flash disappears.

Jeeezus, I had this credit bubble explained to me when i was 14 of an Uncle (ta very much for the yacht in Caribbean) anyone want to buy some RBS shares...much cheapness!!! :D

Davieravie 21-Nov-2009 00:23

Bought at 11p a share

KeefyB 21-Nov-2009 09:30

I could'nt care less if the place never opens again.
The circuit might have been great to ride around but for spectators it was pretty grim.
Nah,Silverstone can have the F1/MotoGP and Brands can have the WSB.

Steve B 21-Nov-2009 17:14

I'm with Keefy - Good riddance to Donington.
F1 to Silverstone, WSB to Brands and MotoGP to the Isle of Man.
OK the last one is not an option, so how about MotoGP at the NW200?

900SL Pete 21-Nov-2009 17:42

I live only 16 miles from Donny, so it's very convienient. Not to mention the names I have seen ride the circuit.
Swantz, Sheene, Roberts, Agostini, Haslam, Grant, Carter, Doohan, Foggy, Haslam right up to Stoner & Rossi to name a few.

I for one would miss it if the circuit closes.
