Monster project again - Pic heavy

Over the last couple of years I have been doing a few projects. The 750SS cafe thingy is finished for now I then decided to tidy up the Monster after 16 years of riding.

This was it before it was stripped down:

The idea was just to tidy it up until an ST2 came up for sale cheap it was in a bit of a state:

Once stripped and the internals removed it was blasted to clean it:

The plan with the new ST2 engine was to keep it as standard as possible.

I had the engine etch primed and then lacquered:

I then mocked it up into the Monster frame:

I had to modify and add some bits to the frame. The radiator mounts, chopped the frame to allow the injectors and custom alloy bell mouths to fit and rear mounts for the ECU to sit:

Because I had removed some of the structural integrity of the frame I then braced it up some more, maybe a bit too much but it looks good:

Everything fitted with a little fettling:

I had to trim the battery box to allow the air filter to fit:

I trimmed the clutch case with a saw and some files:

Fitted the the engine I quite liked the look of the clutch case:

With all the welding finished it was time for a total strip down:

I shortened the standard front mud guard as well and it looks much better and I removed all the seams to give it a cleaner look:

I sent all the bits off to paint and powder to freshen them up:

The engine covers were treated to a bit of gold:

I made another clutch case with a spare I had, this one was also done by hand files and a drill:

It was down to getting the engine together over a few weeks with some other custom parts. Allow cam wheels, lightened primary gears and flywheel:

The flywheel now weighs 1.3kg instead of 5kg.

I managed to get some Ducati Performance hi-comp pistons for a good price:

It all started to come together quite nicely:

With a bit of modification the alloy intake fitted:

The rear end was the easy bit to do:

The mudguard looked great fitted:

Stainless steel headers:

The electrics were fitted under the seat mounted on a carbon sheet:

Love a good picture heavy build thread like this. Will look great once done. I would go the whole hog though and clean up some of the ally parts, bolts/nuts and other fasteners seeing as you've done such a nice job on the engine and frame.

All getting done very slowly. It will all be top draw by the time it is finished (hopefully).

It has been a while since I have fettled the project Monster. MADASL moved to Wales and took my bikes with him, so today I finally went over to work on one of them.

The rear brake hose was replaced with a stealth braided version.

I finally fitted the radiator, without the fan. Once the work was done it was back into the conservatory as a talking piece.

Just the final electrics, fluids and some other bits to finish it off. It might be done for next year!!

The next phase was to sort out the fuel tank for my final (and I do mean final) change.

I really liked the custom graphics that I had on my Super Sport so I decided they would look good on the Monster as well. This time they had to be even more bespoke so off the tank was sent to a sign writer and pinstriper for his custom twist.

Here are the first pictures I have seen of the finished tank:

Can you find the tiny skulls and the tank?

After a month the tank is back on the project in Wales:
