Oil Filter Tool Does anyone know where you can aquire the cup type filter tool that you drive with a 1/2" ratchet and that fits the Ducati size oil filters. I have tried my local Halfords, bike shops and Demon Tweeks. Ducati seems to be a bit of an odd size at 76 mm and 9 flats. |
I spent ages looking , and ypu have three choices ;- 1) Halfords do a self adjusting thing that looks like a spider ..... 2) The old stap thing , but you will get clearance problems 3) A screwdriver ....... Ducati employ apes on steriods to put on the filters .... After trying various other methods 3) worked for me. I wish I hadn't wasted 4 hours before using the screwdriver ...... |
as pieman says use 3/. its so bloody easy oilbin under filter screwdriver and mallet tap, tap oilcovered danny's but hey presto the bloody thing rotates off however for those that want more finess Halfords now have a metalband type assy thats ultrathin so can go over body of filter but no. 3 is always cheaper, quicker, easier No doubt Nelly will call me a bodger, but it werks!!!!!!! rgds mort:roll::roll: |
I would caution you about the cup type. Usually the filters are on tight enough that those simply round off the edges on the filter. I have one, and it never worked. The strap type work well as already recommended. I've been down the screwdriver route as well and it once simply tore apart the casing. At that point you're down to the base and you need a tool to get the remainder off. I made a tool for that, as well. Use the strap! |
You could always splash out and get the ducati oil filter wrench, if memory serves its about £16 |
Failing that.......do the oil & filter changes yourself B4 each service and then you can be sure that King Kong didn't put the filter on in the first place. |
I use a Sykes Picavant tool. It's a spring steel strap that is tightened around the filter, then use the whole tool as the lever. The harder you push, the tighter it gets. It's universal, and hasn't failed to shift a filter in over 15 years!! They still make 'em to, I think. an yes Paul..............ur a bodger  [Edited on 22-12-2003 by nelly] |
