Rear sprocket Had a close look at the rear sprocket on my 916 and I think it could do with a new one. Should I change front and back and a matter of course. Could anyone suggest the best tooth combination. Should I keep it standard. Biggest question is how does the sprocket come off, is it just the bolts on the sprocket housing.....? |
If the back sprocket looks bad, the front will usually be worse. It is usual to replace chain and sprockets together. Combination I'll leave for others to suggest. |
As above. It's best to replace as a set. You'll only accelerate the wear keeping the old chain on. As for gearing......... are you happy with what you've got at the moment? Most common change is 1 tooth off the front, to a 14T. If you're going to remain with the stock type of rear sprocket you're stuck with only a couple of options as there isn't a great range to choose from unless you go DP and these are very expensive. If the bikes a keeper, then it's worth considering a Renthal carrier as future rear sprockets will work out cheaper. You also have a large range of tooth options to choose from. |
Neil, do you have a set in stock |
Neil, what do you mean by carrier, I am a new boy to the 916 so not up to speed on certain items. |
The rear sprocket is a pretty large piece of metal. It carries the cush drives, unlike "conventional" sprockets. This is what makes them so much more expensive. Renthal do a conversion that essentially splits off the centre assembly, with the cush drives in, from the sprocket. This means that once you have the carrier in place then the sprockets are changed in a conventional manner and at about the same cost. Much easier to as you don't need to remove the carrier assemblt from the hub. I don't have any in stock at the moment. I can get them within a couple of days or you can go directly to B&C Express who distribute them. |
thanks neil, i will give you a call and discuss my options. |
