exhaust mod

has anybody butchered the standard can to get the proper sound/look, if so is it a difficult job?
there is an american site (ducatipipemod.com) that does it but i cant find anyone over 'ere on the interweb. i have access to welding/workshop equipment and i'm sure a local engineering firm could knock up some larger tips without to much trouble. also do you think it's possible to wreck the engine with a delboy exhaust (backpressure or something???..i dont know, comments about it on above website).
any advice on this would be much appreciated

If you butcher your standard exhaust, you'll need a PCIII and the Co2 trim pots setting by a dealer in addition to the work you'll have to do on the exhaust...

thats a fair point but from what i've read on this board you need (or it's better to have) a pcIII+dyno time with a termi anyway...

I bought one from Ducatipipemod.com and had it fitted last week along with a PCIII usb. I have to say it's fu**ing loud!... Much louder than a standard Termi!
To be honest his welding job was pretty awful and I made him refund me some of the money to have this sorted out.

Also the finish of the Tips isn't that good as well. If you do manage to get some made up let me know as I really want another set welded onto the exhaust to finish it off nicely.

The bike performs great though and is pushing out just under 106BHP at the back wheel which isn't too shabby for a standard '03 749... Plus you can hear me coming from about three miles away!
:sing:

looking at the rear end pics (on dpm) i see what you mean they look round, not oval shaped? did you have the half or full mod done? i want the look and a better sound but not earth shattering!!
at least if :pig: stops you for a chat you have an eu stamp on it but if it's louder than a termi i doubt that will matter:(

Even if you have dyno time and a PCIII, you'll still need the CO2 settings done I think? I'm no mechanic, so I may be wrong, but I'm sure the CO2s need to be set correctly for proper running - something to do with the increased airflow???

You might want to fit freer flowing air filters too :)

duck 19-Aug-2005 16:10

filters make sense, no point getting it set up if it cant breath properly!
i'll look into the co2 mystery but i wont even attempt it without some advice about what i'm getting myself into. it's slighty different to repacking a kx250 bean can. has anyone even seen inside the standard zorst?

indigoblue73 19-Aug-2005 16:18

I had the full system done... Well Big Tips & De-Cat pipe. I had the bike fully Dyno'd at Road & Track and he never mentioned changing the CO2 settings on the bike and nor did the pip mod bloke... Is this something I need to do?

Don't suppose any of you guys know a good cheap welder/metal worker in the Surrey area?

If it helps,I might have a standard 999R can for sale shortly if someone wanted to try and mod it internally. This would leave their standard one untouched should it all go wrong !!

how much are you after? i'm not sure if it'll fit an 04 749s.......anyone?
