Cambelts Hi £35 per belt seems b***dy steep!! Are there any outlets for belts or is it a false economy to go for non Ducati ones?? Andy:puzzled: |
£70. Small price to pay for peace of mind, the potential damage could run into thousands. There are non-ducati belts that fit, I think some fiat ones do, but they're not kevlar reinforced like the Ducati ones and tend to snap at the drop of a hat (or a valve) so I understand |
Hi Jools, Still bloody expensive. I work for Renault and a belt of twice the thickness and length (at least) with idler pulleys and tensioner is still cheaper, and I thought Renault parts prices were legalised extortion!! Still have to part with the £70 or I'll worry myself stupid all summer.... |
These Gates Powergrip belts on eBay Item number: 8040401038 get good reviews Andy. |
You can buy the Bucci belts here.. http://www.ca-cycleworks.com/shop/ca...ati/maint.html They recently doubled in price to half the price of the Ducati belts, and are now USD29 each. |
I've heard that the Ducati belts are actually supplied by Gates.. Anyone know if thats the case?? |
Yup, Gates make the belts for Ducati, you can get them from a motorfactor type dealer. prices arn't very different though and you have to trust the guy on the parts counter to get it right. The Duc Genuine ones are £60.00 inc vat for DSC members. |
There are two types of belt, and belts have a shelf life. I see that the e-bay belts have Cagiva packaging and white writing which suggests that they may be old stock of the old type belt. Ducati went to Kevlar reinforced belts with red writing quite a few years ago because the belts with white writing were breaking. Quote:

There I was zooming along and the bike suddenly went to half power mode. Where has all the squark gone I said to myself. Upon inspection it was found that 2 of the valves had taken on a funny shape and no long quite fitted in the holes they were supposed to seal up. Second hand bike and belts not changed at 20000 km interval, was the cause. What the hey the valve shims needed checking anyway. Use genuine parts and change the belts regularly, and use a tensioning device, not a 5mm alan key. |
