749R strong smell of fuel

I pull up, blip the throttle and kill the engine. Take my helmet of and there is a strong smell of fuel, but, no obvious signs of any leaking etc.

Bike is a 2004 749r with Termi, race chip and filters. Fuel cap has been replaced with a DP ally unit.

Is this normal or could there be something causing the strong smell of fuel ?

Why are you blipping the throttle before switching off. I seem to remember that this is not good for the bike, but I can't remember why ..

Blipping the throttle when at a standstill
A dumps loads a fuel in that the engine carnt burn efficiently (not so much on modern) bikes, but it also bore washes!
also not good for crank/bigend bearings as the inertia is such that the engine prefers to be spinning at 2000 rpm before blipping
Bliping an engine was used when "crash" Non syncromesh gear boxes were about! needed to bring engine reves wheel speed and axle speed into unison!
not realy needed nowadays!.....mav
