Marchesini Mag Rear Wheel Size

Does anyone know if I would have any fittment issues on a 748bp between the following :

17" x 6" Rear or 17" x 5.5" rear.

Does a wider rim affect the setup?

Effectively none

You would need a 190 tyre on the 6" rim but a 180 on the 5.5".

I expect you already knew that...

And I'd go for a 190/55 on the 6" rear, which might give you a couple of mm extra rear ride height.

Thanks guys. On the basis that I need these as a set of road wheels only would i be better going for some aluminium 5 spokes?

I heard the coating on the mag's means they are more likley to corrode during road use. More importantly are they strong enough to take knocks from holes in tarmac?

Anyone got any 5 spoke aluminium wheels they want to get rid of?

Yep - standard 5 spokes would better fit your needs, in truth the mags would also work fine for "normal" road use, but wouldn't be as practical as standard ones.

Sorry to HIJACK your thread, but is it a REAL worry with the Mag wheels and ROAD use ?
Like should you NOt use them as every day wheels or is it ok,

Its OK - I ran them on the road for a long time, its just that they are not as strong as standard and you run a higher risk of getting them damaged if you hit a pothole etc... there is caution that should be used if repainting them, but this is not more likely if you use them on the road.

Is it true that Mag wheels need to be periodically examined for integrity?

From what I have been reading it is recommended to have them checked annually and I think the advise is to have the x-rayed!
