It always amused me when you'd see people hijack a thread and start to have a conversation in another direction.
Nice "talking" to you Bradders, look forward to seeing you on a meet as we are not far apart.

There is no such thing as an insurance discount for a security product. Your claims experience, age and location will dictate your policy cost. If you feel your circumstances are such, that you need an alarm buy one.
One the other hand if your insurance company specifies policy conditions where you must have an alarm, or if you tell them you have one, and you have not yet bought it, youre not actually insured.
Any discount you negotiate is only to get your buisness, not because of the alarm.

Interesting post. Where do you work? I work in the insurance industry and currently underwrite sports motorcycle insurance. If you would like to get in touch I can hopefully put you right on your assertions because there are plenty of insurers who have a discount built in if the alarm box is ticked. This is regardless of whether they want one because of the theft experience, value of bike or area in which it is garaged. You can check the effects on security discounts by playing on our internet quote site at https://www.accessquotes.co.uk/BikeQuote.aspx
