Fitting rear hugger
 

What is the best way to get a rear hugger fitted to a 748?

More specifically, how to get it inbetween the brake hose and the chain?

How about releasing the rear caliper and getting some more slack in to the hose?

What's the "board approved" method?

Shouldn't have to mess around with the rear brake mate.

From memory (as I use a shock guard instead) a hugger should just slot in and around the rear wheel/shock area. I remember it being a little tricky, but no need to remove anything?

If it really was annoying you, then why not remove the rear caliper to give you the necessary slack...no big deal, five minute job.

What make is the hugger?

Hugger is DP.

mmmh...well mine wasn't, so I'm not much help!

Loads of peeps on here have 'em though, so I'm sure someone will be along any mo to explain.

I do know that some people have had to drill and tap a thread into the swingarm though, to give the whole thing a bit of extra support, otherwise they can flap about a bit.

I have the dp one that is larger one not the race one. It bolts on twice in normal chainguard position and the brake line runs along the top with another moulded strip of carbon bolted together with 2 bolts, looks good and neat and tidy.

My dealer advised a third bolt on the front right hand side to stop it flapping about. The swingarm has to be tapped though. I let my dealer do this although the alloy swing arm is quite thick.

I had mine put on as I bought the bike last Sept, just before winter and works really well.

It is a bit fiddly getting it around the brake pipe :o
It's easier with the wheel off though.
Not had to take the caliper off but that would make it very easy.
I'd recommend getting the third fixing point sorted.............tapping of the swingarm.
Again, with the wheel out, it's not too difficult. I use a M5 so the hole can be drilled and tapped with the hugger in place just to make sure the hole is in the right place.
You don't need to go into far 10mm or so.

Its a bit fiddly, but you\'ll not need to remove anything, just keep at it!!
 

....as far as fixing it to the swingarm goes, I didn't fancy drilling a hole in mine, so I used doublesided tape pad thingy - worked a treat!!

It took a bit of fiddling to get mine in place, without having to remove anything. My swingarm has a tapped hole (not quite in the right place for my DP hugger), but the hugger is so stiff I've not bothered to fit one.

Tim - I thought you didn't like huggers?

In the Ducati.com website FAQ's somewhere it says you are allowed to drill & tap a small hole in the swingarm to allow for fitting the DP hugger
