Forking Hell Hi All My long damply stored 888 Strada has pitted fork sliders and the gold anodising? could do with with renewing due to alluminium corrosion under the clamps. 1. Has anyone used any of the companies that re-chrome the fork sliders then grind them back to the correct size? 2. Are the forks the same as any other Duc models that would be more likely to be available somewhere, (thinking fleabay etc)? I almost have all the bits and pieces I need for the big strip down but am still missing the main side panels, so if there are any gathering dust in the back of a garage somewhere could that person immediately contact me with a ridiculously low price!!:sing: Cheers Guys Andy |
Andy, Get a complete set of Showas, it'll be cheaper than replating what you've got. I have some panels, What's wrong with yours though. |
Do the Showas have to be 888 specific, any other models/makes use the same part? |
Not sure who does it but, why not really improve the forks and go for Titanium Nitrite plating? I get the impression it might be on the 'even more expensive' / bling route however!!! |
I was thinking getting them sorted would be an expensive task, but isnt everything when its Ducati related. I dread to think what I've spent on my Ducs over the last 10 years. Rob, the panels on mine are fibreglass. Although you cant tell them apart from genuine ones, they bug me. Are yours available for sale, if so I'm very interested mate Cheers I've emailed a couple of fork companies so I'll let you know the damage to repair when they get back to me |
I have used Hard Chrome Plated and Ground in Newark, www.forkrechroming.com They know their stuff and the forks really were better than new. Douglas |
Used these guys about 6 years ago. http://amphardchrome.co.uk/index.htm Good service and right price (although I can't remember how much now...) |
HCP&G are about 2 miles from where I work. Their web address is now http://www.hardchromeplating.co.uk/ Their work is superb. [Edited on 8-11-2005 by Rushjob] |
Well I suggested TiN coating and felt guilty about not finding or knowing anyone who did it so.....the IconicSearchEngine had to swing into action...... http://www.allbikeengineering.co.uk/html/forks.html http://www.reactivesuspension.com/services.html SV650 specialist but maybe others: http://www.jhsracing.co.uk/99-650/susp_steer.htm [Edited on 8-11-2005 by Iconic944ss] |
I'll stick in a third vote for HCP & G. They did my RG500 sliders 6-7 years ago and the end result was much better than stock. Still perfect now. Keith |
