One for the techies!
 

I usd originally Freeserve as my boadband provider and that became Orange a couple of years ago. At the time of the change over I had problems with my MS Outlook in that the SMTP e-mail relay address changed from smtp.freeserve.co.uk to smtp.orangehome.co.uk. That caused a couple of days of head scratching whilst we tried to figure it out!

The symptoms were that I could receive ok, but not send.

Then all of a sudden at 09.00 yesterday I get the same problem with smtp.orangehome.co.uk! I can receive through my POP3 address, but cant send out.

Tried the Orange help line and needless to say the phone operative who reside outside of the UK haven't got a clue.

Anyone else come accross this problem?

I can't ping smtp.orangehome.co.uk at the moment, so it may be down?
Probably worth a call to Orange to see what they say.

Well I phoned the Orange help number and finally got through to my new chum Rohip, after about 20 minutes on the phone. With the information from Ant above I finally got them to check the status of the SMTP server and he confirmed that it was currently unavailable, they hadn't had anyone report it to them and it should be fixed within 24 hours!

Wonders of a decent service never cease to amaze me!

Maybe nobody reported it because they couldn't send any email... ;)

Is that the Rohip with the Texas drawl or the one with the Glaswegian lilt?

Being totally non-PC I would suggest the Bangalore shuffle!
