Extra Juice for multistrada

Hello Everyone

I am new to this site and would be grateful for some constructive advise please :puzzled:

I am inlove with the Multistrada but am worried it is lacking in power. I have ridden R1's Speed Triples etc etc.

I like the Multistrada cos it looks comfy and I recon the engine will be torquey? The R1 was fast but gutless when riding at relaxed paces and was bleedin uncomfy after 15mins. The triple is great but I really fancy a change now.

Are their any ways to squeeze more juice out of the engine?
preferably an extra 30bhp???
If so where could I take it to be tuned? Anywhere near Derby would be great.

Cheers to you all :burn:

Best place to go and visit is Ducati Coventry and speak to John Hacket, he should be able to sort something out for you.

Nelly at Cornerspeed 01623 758877 is only about 30 miles from you.

He has got just over 100 rear wheel bhp out of a 2 valve Duke.

An extra 30 may be rather optimistic, expensive and make it less tractable to ride, plus more fragile.

Depends on how deep your wallet is.

No offence meant but some of the money may be better spent on riding course's, and improve suspension to enable maximum use of whats already there, plus some moderate tuning.

(i've also got a nice Multi for sale if you haven't already got one)

Welcome to the board as a newbie, i'll have a pint of stella please

As BDG says tuning any 2v lump over 100 horses isn't cheap or easy. There's lots you can do to change the character of the engine, big bore for more torque, lightened flywheel for better throttle response / more revs, but in the long run you're probably best with a chunky zorst, open airbox, k&n filter and a bit of dyno time.

The next step is a pair of testarossa heads, but you're talking £thousands.... :o

Enjoy the numptystroodle, and welcome to the site, I'd love a pint of guinness. :D

Cheers,

Ali

Hi mate.

John Hacket has a Multistrada of his own with about 110 bhp, but it's had a lot of work done including a big bore kit. But really the standard 1000DS engine is all you need in that type of bike - loads of grunt. If you must have more power what about an S4R?

Southern Comfort and Coke please :)

I reckon that if you're looking for a road bike that can out accelerate an R1 or a Speed Triple in a straight line, you're looking at the wrong bike.

But, if you want a bike that is quicker than most people will ever need down an A road or B road then you don't need a tuned Multistrada to do that. Just surf the torque on a standard Multi and it'll go mental quick if you want it to, firing itself from corner to corner on a big wave of torque.

I have personally witnessed a well ridden Multistrada (step forward KeefyB) surprising a lot of sportsbikes on normal roads.

Your post hints that you haven't actually ridden one yet? Blag a test ride from somewhere and prepare to be surprised.

I was going to say the same as Steve M, S4r might suit your need, easy 120bhp at the back wheel (exhausts and a power comander), upright riding position, good handling and a hoot on the road :D

Have a good ride on one first, don't think you will find a need for anymore bhp. just de-cat and termis should bring a big:D

Jack D & coke

Cheers

Hmm,you want to compare a Multi to an R1 or Speed Nipple!!??:o
Ridden in isolation the Multi is awesome, loads of bottom end grunt and superb handling.Ridden back to back against something more (ahem) sporty tho and you'll find its weeknesses. The bike does run out of puff at the top end.Exit a third gear corner on my 999,its pull is very strong up to 8,000 rpm and then goes bonkers up to 10,000 rpm.:devil:Rev limiter cuts in around 11,500rpm.
Now do the same corner on a standard Multi,...punch out of the corner is good from 7-8,000 rpm,...very similar to the 999,in fact.8,000 rpm plus tho,and the power is fading,...rev limiter cuts in around 8,750 rpm.
So,performance bike it aint.
Multistrada-ing is all about surfing that big band of low down torque and grunt that fires you from A to B with very little effort.
