Hi

Just bought a 996s, 2001 model.
Have come from a k3 gixxer thou, written off in france in june.
always fancied a duke, so thought why not.
anyway, have heard about bikes falling off sidestands due to problems with spring.
is this true and if so what can i do to fix it.
any other things to watch out for
looking forward to many enjoyable miles

where are you based, never had any problems with side stands on the three dukes I have owned.

dickieducati 23-Aug-2005 17:19

welcome aboard, i never had any problems with my 916 so cant help on that.

whereabouts are you based for rideouts?

and i'll have a vodka redbull if you're at the virtual bar.

I believe the issue you are referring to is that some of the earlier bikes had the 'suicide' stand that sprung back into place as soon as the weight had lifted off it. Leading some people to accidentally drop them.

You have a 2001 996S which I don't belive has it. My 2000 996 BP doesn't have it.

Welcome to the board - while you're getting dickie's vodka and red bull I'll have one, but make it a double :D

Cheers.

Steve . The only problem with the spring loaded side stand is " make double sure that the stand lever is fully extended before leaning the bike and letting the full wieght take the strain. Other wise the stand shuts back up and you find the bike on is side. "Works fine if you take your time" 4D

Just take care when putting it on the stand and you will be OK.
As it is 5 thirsty time I will have a dry white wine please.

Welcome

Don't bother with the stand, just lean it against the bar, over here, near me.

A southern comfort? Thanks very much that will be very nice.
