Visor differences - black, iridium, mirrored??
 

Looking to get some visors for my helmet but apart from looking cool, are there any differences between visor coatings?

I guess black is just darker but are the mirror and iridium versions just a coating or do they work differently and filter out more/less of the sunlight. Are they generally lighter than the black versions. Also what are the best ones for poor visibility - in snowboarding googles - yellow / orange were the best.

I have a variety for my AGV already but have changed my helmet brand so looking to get new ones so interested in the differences.

dark visors of varying degrees are tinted. mirrored and iridium are normally tinted to but with a coating on top to give the effect.

iridium/mirrored are a bit naff imho.

i personally have clear/legal tint/and dark(race) for mine.

I agree with Dickie, iridium are naff and a bugger to keep clean as well. I nearly always wear a dark race only visor.

yup have too agree the iridium wears off after a while apparently aswell .
Re Snowboarding goggle's yellow still the best option, plus you can now
get double glazed one as a mate just bought some.???

Well I have a rainbow iridium visor (for over years now) in very good condition and in my opinion not only cool but effective even in this light:cool:

I just wondered if the iridium is just a fancy coating that has no other benefit other than looking cool or whether it reflects / absorbs some of the suns rays etc. I know that the orange and yellow goggles I have are incredible in low light conditions so curious as to the true purpose of iridium?

not sure but i recon its just so you can look chav when you cant wear a shell suit. (says he with flames on his bike!)

Its a very very thin layer of metal which is deposited onto the visor. The bae visor can be clear, tinted or black. The irridium just makes the outside of it look like a mirror.
Because its a thin enough coating to see through you have to be super careful when cleaning it.

Cant beat a good Black Visor, i dont like the look of iridium, theyre for GSXR's

I've had a couple of iridium ones and will cheerfully get another too. They scratch very easily but in my opinion the black ones are too dark and even in overcast conditions make seeing anything on the road ahead problematic.
Iridium ones have less of a tint to see through as the light is reflected away from the inside not just absorbed, they cut out as much light as the black ones but will not seem as dark to see through.
A matter of choice really.
....black ones are cheaper generally.
