Just got the T8 back from the sprayshop:DI`ve had it painted in `94 corse livery and can`t decide whether to do the wheels white or not.The factory bikes were white, what do you reckon chaps:puzzled:

Looking good mate, that is a superb bike.

However, I'd say sod the factory bike look...white wheels? what a mare to keep clean.

My favourite wheels are satin or gloss black. Been thinking about doing that to the old ST over winter, but I don't want to spend too much more tarting up the old bus, it is after all only an ST.

Silk purses and sow's ears spring to mind.

Nah - go for white wheels - you want it to look "proper".

She looks a beauty!!!

This is where I got the colour scheme and ideas from(loosely) but I`m not a big Foggy fan.

Thanks Jools, are you out tomorrow with KB?

I reckon they would give it that final touch but you've got to be happy with cleaning the buggers! Cleaning white wheels - not for me!

18-Sep-2004, 17:52
I'm no expert but I feel that if you are prepared to make the effort that it takes to keep white wheels clean then it will make the bike far better looking

Jasper
18-Sep-2004, 18:05
Nightmare to keep clean, but if that's the look you were after, then stick with it.I'd personally go for black, especially as Corsers wheels were black in '93 and Polens black in '92.

looking good mate.
Having had the white flavour, and the black.

Has to be black, it just gives the bike that little bit more aggresive stance.

But just my thoughts.

Nice though, all you need now is a nice corsa nest of vips & pipes.;););)

Here you go Sparkin - a quick lash-up.

Quite like the look of those early Marvic wheels you were talking about a while ago. You give up on those? They still for sale? How much/where from?

Black gets my vote.

sparkin
18-Sep-2004, 19:29
Hmm....Black like you say, looks a bit meaner and is easier to keep clean, but I`m a cleaning, kinder bling/carbon junkie anyway so that doesn`t really bother me.
White stands out a bit more I think and is in keeping with the look.................then there`s always gold Weevee;)

keefer
18-Sep-2004, 19:47
black is no easier to keep clean, if it's got brake dust on it it's not shiny
Black is the new white,
But i would go with the white, keep it classic

I think you should go with this option then.
early two piece, Marvic three spoke wheels, polished ally rims with gold mag spokes.

Thought about it KB,but I`ve never been one for "a rider replica hero worship type thingy" I just like the style and spec of race bikes. Not only that, but my sprayer would have had to had graphics made up so the carbon number could show thru, but he had the No1 in stock;)
You know me mate no patience:devil:
If you look at the `94 bikes they`re white,at the moment it`s 60/40 in favour of white:lol:

WHat a great thread with some excellent pics and great touch-up work as well.

Personally I think a 900ss looks old-fashioned with the white wheel and frame and as for cleaning !!!

The colour wheels you have at the moment I think, look great but, I do love my gold front Marchesini - I just wish I could afford a rear one

Gold Dymags maybe?

Frank

Nattyboy
20-Sep-2004, 14:07
Frank...What you need to do is sell me your front to match this back mag one ive got...weve got the reverse problems

Remind me...(I think your ss runs on the same spindle size as my 888)..was this a custom fit wheel or did you get a 9** one and change the bearings..if so how easy was it ??

Do alpinestars make stilletoes to match your white wheels?
Honestly, what can you be thinking??
I've just blacked up my SP5 wheels as the silvery gold colour looked a bit poofy.
Had black wheels also on my '92 851.
You may be wondering if white will look OK - bottom line is it may look OK, but black will look awesome.

Running out of funds i`m afraid mate, the bike is now home, but needs a new battery as the old one isn`t holding it`s charge.Going to try and get the nose cone and screen on at the weekend, the carbon side fairings have been put on the back burner for a while,I have the decals, but not the money for paint:( The bike sounds fantastic since I got it back, lots crisper, compression restored etc can`t wait to get it on the road:D

Sparkin, the bike looks good. Have always liked white wheels since my original 1990 851. My 888 is still in bits in the garage, might be able to get working on it now the weather is a bit warmer. Where did you get the exhaust hangers? I have just got a pair of Sil Motor cans off a Superlight and need the swept back hangers to match.

That's turned out real nice. One of the prettiest 888s I've seen.

The hangers are one-offs made by Carl Harrison M/Cs to carry the 50mm SP system.I`m still contemplating how I`m going to do the carbon side panels,I have a set of original decals, but I`m not sure if I should leave some carbon showing thru or not, like the number one on the seat unit is,probably the bottom air vents(996R style),or should I just do it as standard or even race replica like the picture earlier in the thread:puzzled: ,what do you think chaps?

Jasper
20-Mar-2005, 12:19
I would,as you have already stated, put the standard decals on,but leave the bottom air vents in carbon.

It justs seem to settle the bike a bit better by "pulling" down on the engine, just like your superlight should do.
