Side-stand.....

Having an early model (1998) luckily I don't have to worry about the electricery being cut when the stand is down - which is a wee bit handy, BUT.........

For the last three years I've never been able to get on with the fact that the stand flips itselft up, at the slightest oppertunity - as it's the type that is meant to be that way.

Is there a way for me to modify it so that when I "kick" the stand down, it stays down until I decide to flip it back up again???

The easiest solution is to use the parts that Ducati fit on the later bikes with the switch fitted.
Part numbers are 75010481A (nut) and 82912602A (plate).
These replace your existing parts and your stand is sorted. Costs about a fiver

Just don't forget to put the stand up! There's no safety interlock like on a Japanese bike. I saw someone forget at a CSS day at Rockingham earlier this year (and he wasn't doing Level 1 either!) - he was very nearly seriously embarrassed.

thought if you do the conversion it will stall once placed in gear..

I think this is only true for the later bikes fitted with a switch on the sidestand. My 916 runs just the same with the sidestand down if in gear or in neutral. Mind you, given the reliability of Ducati neutral switches...

I bought a sidestand cutout bypass thingy from Roy996 on e-bay (about £20) was easy to fit and works perfectly.

just ordered my bits from nelly, under £4 inc p&p

he'll sort you out good and proper

i think im right on this and thats that it wont stall on the earlier models as they have the spring instead of the plates the later models have, thats why changing the two over wont cause any problems, the newer bikes need the bypass to be fitted
