I am about to fit Ducati performance cans to my 2000 900ss. Do I need to modify the air intake system? Any advice will be much appreciated.

No, there's very little to be gained.

Slip-ons will give you a lovely exhaust note, but improvements to exhaust flow are so minor that there's no need to compensate with changes to the air intake track. Just remember to clean the air filters regularly and the bike will run fine.

2000 model so it is a 900ss ie ?? a great bike, i had one for 4 years before it was stolen GRRRRRRRR!. Ialso fitted the DP carbon cans(by remus) and they come with a new EPROM also the guy who fitted them tweaked the lowspeed setting(from memory). it ran beautifully - but then fitted BMC high-flow air filter and drilled the airbox full of holes(about 25mm dia) - which also made a noticeable difference. The next mod was to change gearing(lower) which was a real bonus - 1 tooth off the front or add between 2 and 4 at the back...hope this helps, the ss ie is a great bike!

Remember that the best thing about modding the airbox lid is that _you_ get to hear more of the noise !
I really wouldnt want to run one with a std airbox lid anymore !

Yeah,

My Ducati Performance cans come with an ECU too. My airbox was also modded / butchered / lids just cut away totally!!! What a sound, even with the standard cans you hear that engine!

Mind you since Nelly tweaked her, she has never been to sweet.
