748/916/996 clocks wont work of the pulses from the pickups on the carb'd bikes which is why Ducati did the DP special ones.
I have managed to open a tacho up years ago and change over the circuit board. So it might be possible to build one tacho from the two

They were never cheap, I got good money for my setup the other week

On my Class B buke I used a Stack tacho, I bet a Spa Tacho would also work OK
as do the Scitsu (Red back, must dig mine out and give it a charge). Not sure if an Elliot Tacho will and if so which one.
But there are a host of Digital ones out there these days for just under £100 that will probably work.
Time to find out what others are using

Why is that Kev - wrong voltage or different frequency or something?

Well when I plugged 748 clocks in at cadwell they worked fine but when I looked at them at end of race they had given up. Plugged my original dp clocks in and it works, so wiring must be fine, just circuit given up.

Quality of pulse I suspect, probablt to much noise when triggered by the coil wire where as the pulse from the 1.6M's Tacho output should be a nice clean digital pules with no emf effects
