View Full Version : Cast Iron discs?
Hi,
Just received a couple of cast iron discs bought from fleabay:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=7950902787
Having got hold of them there's two questions:
1) Why don't they rust when I run water over them like mine do on my SL?
2) Did brembo ever make cast iron discs with steel carriers, because these definitely aren't alloy?
The discs are in really good nick, with virtually no wear, although they are a little on the blue side. I'm aware that brembo also did a high-carbon iron disc but, again, I thought it came on an alloy carrier.
Help, I'm confused!!:puzzled::puzzled::puzzled:
Cheers,
Ali
don't want to be the bearer of bad news but they don't look like cast iron discs to me.
look like standard alloy with those carriers
That's what I was thinking.....
Weight is 1950g per disc/carrier.
mine rust as soon as it gets cloudy:lol:
sorry Keefer is correct they are standard discs as fitted to 916/748 SS and Monsters etc with steel carriers
P.S £107 each plus vat for New ones
I think a message to ebay and the seller of the discs.

Yep Ali..im with the other guys...the discs themselves also have the standard drill pattern (see attached for comparison).
The only other version of a cast iron brembo disc ive seen is the hard anodised race version which has a greeny coloured carrier.
Im sure youll get it sorted mate..good luck
Nat
The guy has accepted full responsibility, grovelled, and is refunding the full price plus postage. Seems a genuine mistake so no harm done.

What pads are you using with the cast irons? I could only get hold of sinterteds suitable for stainless, but at £45 pair I'm not sure I can afford to change!
Gorra set of genuine cast iron discs if you are still interested.

For the ductile iron disks? You sure about that? SuperLight ones are listed around £220ish plus vat.

£107 is what I was quoted a while back for stock discs for my 2001 748.
But, a question. The discs ali bought, and the ones shown in the pic in his (?) later post, have circular holes in the carrier. These are the same discs I had on my (T reg) 750SS.
The later discs on my 748 have "sector" shaped holes (like a piece on an orange). Sort of wedged-shaped with rounded corners.
Now older discs with the round holes often come up on Ebay.
Are they fully exchangeable with the later ones?
TIA

That's more like it. Last years price list shows the "normal" discs at £100.69 plus VAT....
As far as I'm aware all the discs for SBKs and SS's are interchangable with the exception of the "R's" (?). Obviously the 999/749 style ones are different.

No that's for the standard one as Ali has bought off Ebay

BREMBO DIRECT REPLACEMENT FRONT BRAKE DISCS
Harris Super Bikes; Ducati 916/748/996
These brake discs are designed specifically for trackday and race use. They are fully floating which gives greater heat dissipation as well as utilising the trademark Brembo drilled rotor. In addition, the WIDE rotor is made from a rough cast Stainless Steel and the narrow track (actually Brembo’s full SBK race disc) is made from a true cast stainless steel, which is superior to other brands. Gold machined aluminium centre. We recommend using Sparco SR-11 or RR-01 brake pads.
· All Direct Replacement discs are 320mm, so you may need to fit caliper spacer/bracket kits if shown
· WIDE = (5mm thick wide track) Trackday disc can be used with all caliper types
· Narrow track discs (08.6703.11 & 08.6703.69) fully cast stainless steel 6mm thick SBK race spec. For race calipers.
Price for the discs are £123.14 each plus VAT
