I've done it - I've Become the Thing I Hate ...

Passed my car driving test (at the first attempt) this morning. I am now a qualified "steel cage and mobile chicane" operator.

Didn't look too promising first thing this morning, snow falling out the sky and beginning to settle - "Blinkin' typical", I thought. Still, all's well that ends well.

Now, where did I put that bucket of vallium tablets ...

well done mate, you now have a truly mobile office and somewhere to make all your phone calls in peace ....

Thanks Dibble. Makes sense when you put it that way!

Well done that man. Many congratulations. You are now officially a taxi driver for your kids!:lol:

What sort of car are you going to buy?

They're all much of a muchness, if you're staying within the realms of 'reasonable insurance without No Claims discount'.

Just don't buy a Smart Car if you want to retain people's genuine respect.

(Sorry CK - managed to keep my mouth shut about yours because I'm scared of you but I have to give Loz the right advice, don't I?):frog:

Thanks, Charlotte.
How much you asking for yours? And can it be converted from electric to petrol?

That was spooky, Charlotte - how did I know you'd find out what I was posting before I even knew myself!

:o roof, how could you be sooo insulting?:puzzled:

must give you a test drive sometime - when it corners on 2 wheels at 60 you really will have a laugh!

Thanks Ruth. Does Ducati make cars?

Anyway, I don't want a car! I was told I had to pass my test, not drive a car! :P

Abject apologies, Charlotte. Don't hate me.:devil:

If you must know, the first brand new car I ever bought (as opposed to 2nd hand heaps of junk) was a blue and yellow Citroen 2CV, so I'm not exactly your fine judge of motoring excellence, am I? Not with cars, at least. Obviously, I am with bikes!:roll:

Oooh, how pedantic you can be, Loz. Still, that's probably how you passed your test first time, isn't it!

Anyone who is anyone failed hers the first time when the examiner slammed on the brakes 2 minutes into the route.:lol::lol:

Loz
22-Feb-2005, 13:38
The first manouevre I had to do was parallel parking.

I perform the deed, pleased with my effort, and look at the examiner - he says, "Are you done, then?" in a quizzical voice.

D'OH!

I was certain for most of the test that I'd failed!

:( :barfy:  :bouncy:

Oi Ruth! I bought Mrs Jools a Smart car!

Initially it was against my better judgement, until I actually sat in one and drove it. Then I started to think...hmmmm, yeah, makes sense for somebody who doesn't like driving much, only has a 3 mile journey to work and the odd trip into town to bash the credit card.

Nowadays, I find myself grabbing the keys whenever I've got a bit of nipping about to do because it's so much fun to drive

FUN?????????

Your clearly suffering from motorbike withdrawal symptoms if you can think driving one of those is FUN?????

I had this whole conversation with Magpie when he was driving me to the BHC Christmas lunch in his Porsche Boxster!
His Mrs has a Smart Car and he agrees with you about them.

It's a disease! It must be STOPPED!

Well done Loz, handy for those track day moments where you can stuff the bike in the back of a van to get it home.
Kev.

Congratulations Loz!
First time as well heh?! Welcome to the world of traffic jams.

Loz
22-Feb-2005, 15:04
Thanks Kev - is the van your present to me for passing? Cheers, mate! :D

Actually, sod buying a car, I'm getting a van! (Unless I can get a specially-modded, long wheelbase SMART car, that might be good too.)

OK Roof - if this Sunday is too yucky to take the bikes out for fun to the Surrey meet, pop over & come for a spin in the nut mobile - and stay for a spot of lunch:cool:

Its like an outsiders view of the Ducati - you either love it - or hate it - no middle ground at all:lol: (I luv it, Al hates it!:o )

I doubt I'll be driving a Volvo, somehow - but maybe Bradders will lend me his SAAB from time to time?

CK, is one of them the unusual multi-colour bike I've seen Alan ride? :)

Failing that, I'd like something the size of your SMART car, but still has room to load a bike or two in the back for trackdays.

Hmmm ... does Nissan make a Tardis, I wonder? :puzzled::bouncy:

Thanks Charlotte. It's a bit like being in a leper colony, I reckon. Being a Smart Car owner. You just don't notice you've all got the same disease and you can't wait to infect other people.

PS I know I'm gonna pay for that -- it's just a question of when, and how much xxxxxxxxxxxxxx:devil::P:lol::frog::devil::P:lol::f rog:

Loz mentioned Nissan and that reminded me that Japan makes a bunch of neat smaller cars that don't go to foreign shores too often. They started out as 660 cc jobs, got jazzed up with turbos, four valves, 6 speeds and stuff and some also grew into 1200-1300 cc jobs. Most of them are built for young folk or young mothers to haul stuff (kids and sundry items) around without being unstylish or too slow. Couple of buddies have them to haul MTBs around in, but some of them could do a low, light bike like a 749. Probably not sold in the UK though. Great mileage, lots of parts on the market and fairly noticeable go power.

Roof!:o

s'orlrite - I'm used to being called a leper!:P:lol::lol:

mind you, tis cheap to run - have done 253 miles on this tank full so far - and now just down to 1/4 tank today, costing £17/£18(ish) to fill tank from when light comes on. Tax is about same as the M1000, and insurance a bit less.
Parking area is also not much more room either!:lol:

C:D smart car leper of the DSC:lol:
