Now when i was on good old dial up i could also use my modem to send faxes. Am i right in thinking that now i'm on broadband i can no longer send faxes?

Sorry, i'm not at home at the moment so i cant try it out. Its just that i have re inherited my old PC which had a modem with it so if i can use it for something i might keep it.

You know I have asked myself the same question, I wanted to send several faxes and now with BB and no dial up I'm stumped, I'm guessing there must be a fax to BB piece of software out there...

No reason why you can't - as long as you have a modem and phone line you can send and receive faxes.

You will need to install the fax software, or use the built-in Microsoft fax manager software. You may need to install MS Fax Manager if it's not already. If you goto the Control Panel, then Add/Remove Programs and finally Windows Setup, it's in there.

Boys - nothing has changed. You don't need a dial up account to send /receive faxes!

You're just not using your modem for internet connection anymore, but keeping it for faxing.

I understand about the account thing. I was wondering if i can use the broadband modem to send faxes or do i have to keep using the old steam 56k modem?

No, the broadband modem is going direct to the internet in WWWland via a seperate route. Your modem should still be seperatly connected to your telephone line (the old double socket thingumyjig) and when you send a fax, it's connetcting to the PSTN (Public Switched Telephone Network)

Ahhhh... but for me, I never needed to fax until I went BB, so never had a fax/modem.

So I would either need to buy an old fax/modem PCI card or get some rinky dink s/w that can do it via BB/on-line service

I've been waiting for the ideal opportunity to use this because I nearly wet myself when I found it.

Incidentaly, I googled broadband fax service and came up with a few options but it seems that most services are subscription based.

I was looking for a free service but I'm in a conference call now ....

You can use this link free of charge to send faxes. Does not work for all countries but you can check if the phone number is valid first.
