View Full Version : What the hell happend here?
Got about 5 miles in to a ride today and noticed that above 5000 rpm the clutch was slipping. So i just presumed that my Ferraci Slipper clutch had come to then end of its life. Till i got home opened it up and saw that the spider spring has shed 4 of its legs. And there was quite a bit of grease in there too
Question 1, How can this have happend?
Question 2,Will i have to buy a complete new clutch?
Thanks in advance

have seen this on a few other bikes on the site.
something to do with to much pressure on the spring maybe.
you can get just the spider spring but you will want to find out why it has broken in the first place or it may happen again.
mine has never broken so hopefully someone's who's has will be along in a mo to tell you the remedy.
I know Yeti's went recently so drop him a note
I think I read somewhere on this board that the spider spring is to be replaced every time the clutch is pulled apart and reassembled.
Think the spring only has a certain life span Paul, as has been said already.
Think they're about £30-40 to replace, the hardest part will be torqing the nut up!
It's not uncommon. The spring either fractures through fatigue I guess, or loses it's "springiness" over time. Mine did it last year.
You may not have to stick witht he FBF spring as they are pretty much standard across different manufacturers, just make sure the ID is the same size as there are two different ones in use.

I have a spring from an FBF slipper that went south (the bearings disintegrated). As previously mentioned you may be wiser buying new but your welcome to it as a temporary measure.
