View Full Version : Strongest painkillers from chemist?

What are the strongest pain killers I can get from somewhere like Boots, or my local chemist?

I don't want to overdose on Nurofen, so wondered if there is something a bit stronger that I don't need a doctors prescription thingy for?

Can I get co-codimol (or whatever it is?)

I was at Louigi's today, just getting in the way (for 10 hours) and I can pull the clutch in quite well now, but it's a little uncomfortable and after a few sessions I can see it being fairly sore... god forbid any tank slappers... ouch!!!

Ta muchly.

hummm co-codamol you quite literlay will be flying i imagine might want to look up on the 'do not use heavey machiney warnings there'

if you get one of each you can take a pain killer every hour without overdoesing or something like
paracetamol
ibuprofen
asprin

Ibuprofen, you can take 800mg at a time. Only thing, they raise you're blood pressure, which cannot be reversed from this use. So don't over do it, and have half a cow at the same time. Will help with the swelling and pain, the pills not the cow.

Dom,

Be careful what you take - you are participating in a sport, remember that!

You could fail a dope test :D:smug:

Dom, I could help you out mate BUT should you have a whoopsie on the track you will deffo find yourself in a pickle.

Make sure you note down whatever you take, and make sure a mate has this with him/her whilst you are racing.
Generally this wont be a problem with over the counter stuff, but quacks do like to know 'whassgorn-on' when doing the mending.

C:)

can help afterwards tho;)

Right i've just spoken to my nurse at work about it,she help me alot with my arm....

Paracetamol...co-codamol...and co-dydramol..all these three have paracetemol in them..so you can not mixed these three!!

but you can have anyone of the top three with

ibuprofen 400mg every 4-6 hours

i'd took

Co-codamol..and ibuprofen...I'd took two 400g ibuprofen two hours before the first race...and two Co-codamol one hour before the first race...but make sure you eat something..

and make sure you are not allergic to any off these before you have them......I'd try some the day before the meeting, just to make sure i'd felt ok...

and you can buy all these from the chemist..

Shall we grass him up after the race for a protest to see if he's got any banned substances?

Only if he actually finishes though....

Thanks Ian, I really appreciate that, good stuff :D

I read all about this stuff last night (loads of stuff from paracetamol to morphene & ketammine etc. :o)

It did say that mixing paracetamol & ibuprofen was a very good combination to reduce pain. So, I think a trip to the chemist is in order.

Phil, I'm not being a poof, just don't fancy my reaction to a tank slapper, I think it may 'twinge' a bit :P

Otherwise, I think I should be pretty much OK once the adrenalin is pumping ;)

Thanks everyone :D

Fer God's sake see a doctor.

If you need stronger stuff than the normal dosage of over the counter painkillers, get some professional help. Don't mess about with home brewed pain killer remedies, they can have dire consequences. To much paracetemol will cause irreparable liver damage, if you overdose on that stuff it's irreversible and can be fatal.

A cocktail of painkillers? A mix and match 'do-it-yourself' remedy taken from advice on a motorcycle forum? It may have worked for other people who did it using direct advice from their doctor, but taking them on secondhand advice from people who know about motorbikes but sweet FA about medicine? Get real Dom, it's your body we're talking about here and you've only got one, so look after it fer crying out loud.

There is not one person on here that can give you direct advice about what doses are safe to take or what mixture of painkillers you can take and the obvious stuff about drowsiness and riding whilst in cloud cuckoo land have already been said.

There's some pretty macho stuff going on here but it's a DD round for goodness sake, not BSB.

I take your points Jools, but to be fair I have read up on this, and would always seek professional advice first.

The medical text I read, said that it is very common to take paracetamol with ibuprofen. Ian just backed up what I had read.

Also, I would take the minimum dose, just to take the edge off any discomfort so that I can concentrate on racing and not nursing my arm. It's 75% there anyway, and anything that may make me drowsy will be backed up with cocaine or speed, so no worries there

It aint macho at all, I've raced with worse injuries and sooner after an accident... it's just in the way it is - 99.9% of racers do the same week in week out. I'm far from macho or a special case :D

M8 this is what i'd have done,i'd done the same sort of break....and seeing us i work for a medicaL firm, and had got this information what the doctor who saw me...and have just spoken to the nurse at work to make sure this is still ok.
and she has wriiten it all out for me.......and i took the same stuff when i rode with a broken arm...and had to make sure the stuff would be ok to used on a race track!!

you've are so right about paracetamol..

thats why i said what the nurse said you cant take...

paracetamol......co-dydramol........co-codamol any of these together...BECAUSE THEY ALL CONTAIN PARACETAMOL

and you NEVER TAKE MORE THEN WHAT IT SAY ON THE PACKET!! AND MAKE SURE YOU ARE NOT ALLERGIC TO ANY OF THESE.......

OK, update...

I went in to the Chemist, and explained the situation (that I was at Mugello racing against Valentino Somebody) and the Farmysist said I should take Ibuprofen & Paracetamol, as the Cocodamol could make me drowsy, although it's the dogs danglies for pain relief.

So, Ian - You win a donut!! :D

Dom, yer a pansie! Just grin and bear it 'til the race, then when the light goes off, it suddenly stops hurting!

Adrenalin is so much better than anything you can get from Boots... worked for me at cadders anyway.

How quick was he?

Anyway, there are some extremely rapid one armed racers out there. One guy does MRO Powerbikes on a ZX10 I think... That's impressive!!

Nope. It was only a bust knee cap, but it did have a whole hour to heal... glad it wasn't only 5 weeks!

I'm just messing with you anyway, whatever you take make sure it keeps you on the track... cos I'm looking forward to you making a proper challenge this time.

That's where you're going wrong Nick... You should use your left hand to pull the clutch in, it's way easier

Like i'd said i'd spoke with the hospital doctor and the works nurse...
I'd dont trust the chemist half off them cant even speak english!!...and they said it would be ok to race taking both.....plus i try it out the day before and i was fine..... but if you are worry, Paracetamol should still work..:ninja:
