View Full Version : Broken rear sub-frame

Hi,

Recently returned from a trip round Europe and just found out my subframe has split in 2. The only different thing I had on this trip was a ventura 45 litre pack. Anyone had same sort of thing happen or know if there an inherent weakness in the subframes? Any info greatly appreciated or if anyone knows of where to hands on a reasonably priced one?

btw, before anyone asks, I am only about 12 stone!

What bike?

Mono (ally) or Bp (Steel) subframe?

Hmmm...

Not sure TBH... BDG has a 996R Grand Tourer ;) with luggage rack and tank bra thingy and he's a big lad and had no problems with his subframe to my knowledge.

But I am guessing there is a maximum weight you can carry, so you plus leathers etc, and luggage rack, luggage

JPM (aka skinny whippersnapper) is right.

I've had Ventura stuff on 2 different bikes with alloy subframes, fully loaded with hair care products:lol: and all other touring essentials and i used to be over 17.5 stone before reaching my sylph like, under nourished waif 16 and a little bit, with no problems at all.

I guess you have been unlucky.

Bad luck I guess mate.

I've fitted the stronger steel subframe to my 748R without any real effort. Mainly for the missus to go on the back but does help when I have my back-2-back Packs on the Ventura rack.

Might be worth a thought

Hi Mate,
This is a known fault with early 748R sub frames, mine did exactly the same thing and I never carried any luggage - did do quite a few laps of Cadwell over the mountain though!

Later subframes were fitted with an extra brace for additional strength.

If you speak to your dealer chances are Ducati may cough up with a replacement.

Having followed you for most of the trip in Europe I would say it's due to the enormous amount of time you spent going round corners at the vertical.....helps to lean a bit mate and distributes force a little!!!

I'd go for the subframe on ebay.

Hope bike is running again now after immobiliser prob?
