Hi folks, replacing cush drives on 916...I am having a problem removing the sprocket carrier "plate", the large spindle nut is SOLID, is this a reverse tread by any chance ???
any help much appreciated
thanks Geoff M
Don't think so Geoff, but I know when Lily had a renthal carrier put on her 748, Nelly had to use an air wrench to get the thing moving
It's a normal thread.
Impact wrench or a BIG breaker bar.

I have the tell tale "slivers of alloy" on the rear wheel, one cush drive is moving out, best replace the lot methinks. If I could only get this damn nut off !!

It's a normal thread.
Get yourself down to Argos and buy a RAC impact wrench.
It never feels like it’s going to work but I’ve yet to encounter a nut that it wont take off.
I’ve done my back wheel, rear sprocket and clutch with it. Really worth the £25 it costs. :D
You may have a cold seizure (correct term?) and need to break it. Sometimes you can do this with a breaker bar by applying tightening pressure first then changing direction.
