I have been offered a 900 engine from a write off it is minus the rear cylinder and apart from the rubber gasket a thingmy on the oil net drain plug it looks the same as my 94' the clutch shows no wear I changed mine at 19000 well worn. the rest of the cycle parts are sold those that were of any use, front end big style ouch! what should i offer for the rest as spares?:puzzled:

Hi Stephen, Not sure about the extra seal on the slave cylinder - will check the books I have and try to get back to you.

Someone on the net was offering a 93 900ss for spares minus exhausts and rear hugger for £1K.

Front ends seem to go to 200-300 so on that basis I'd say less than £700 on that basis - is the frame ok ????

is the "thingamy on the oil net drain plug" are you reffering to an electrical connection??? if so this is a oil temp sender unit --i could be wrong tho

Hard to tell from your description but...

If there is no boss for the kickstarter on the right, lower, rear side of the crankcase, it should be a 1996 or 1997 motor.

If the oil screen plug is just a seven point, this means the bike did not have an oil cooler and thus is probably a 92, 93 or even a 94. But if the oil screen plug has a little knub conector ( this is for the oil temp sensor and rubber boot as MM998 pointed out), this means the engine is maybe a 94 and more likely a 95-97 motor.

The sound deadening gasket for the clutch cover appeared in around 96 or 97.

The only thing I would be concerned about is getting a 97 or 98 motor that came from a Monster, as those engines had smaller valves than the std 900 2V motor.
