Hi,

don't know if anyone can help here but I'm thinking about converting to double disc on my 1995 Monster. I have been offered some 916 calipers of the same year. Anyone know if they will fit my standard forks.

Cheers

Franco

I'm sure they will. Just check the caliper mounting points are 40mm spaced...

Yes they will fit defo no need to measure and don't pay more than £50 for a pair.

Don't forget you'll need to change the master cylinder as well to one suitable for twin discs (the standard one has a smaller bore).
A second hand 916 / 748 style master cylinder should set you back around £40 ish second hand and does nicely.

As Zimbo says you should upgrade the mastercylinder as well, most are going the remot reservoir route but a cheaper option is to use one off a twin disc Monster or 750SS.
You pays your money and makes your choice

Cool thanks.
Hmmm...just got landed with the bill for the work on my bike....might have to go for the cheapest option possible!!!
I have definyiely won the calipers on ebay so that's good - will look around to try an find a 916/748 option as cheap as possible now.
By the way I had my first ride of my (more or less) today at Snetterton. Prob not the best track to start - especially with Arctic winds and snow swirling around later in the day but one thing I noticed is that even with resprung forks the front was ...errr...squidgy. It makes me wonder what it would be like with more powerful brakes now?! Could anyone tell me what weight fork oil is being used generally - I have a 1995 monster which I think has Marzocchi forks.

cheers

Franco

Ideal for what you need, bet it goes for around 3 times the start price. The later ones are better than the earlier ones as they incorporate a bleed nipple

Cheers. Will keep an eye on this and in general
