KeefyB is right, they are definitely 8mm, I bought a new stand as I let my single sider go with my 748 thinking I wouldn't need it anymore. The problem was I could not get the confidence lifting the new bike up and found it even more scarey getting the bike off the stand. I ended up buying an identical replacement stand to the one I let go. It could of just been me, but if someones not bothered about removing the rear wheel and they do not already have a stand I feel it's far easier and stable lifting the 749 using the single sider pushed into the wheel spindle.
