Just rebuilt the ss after a shunt last year. One seal was leaking so stripped em down and re fit seals. re filled with fork oil from Hein Gerick. I dont know if this was a mistake cause I know it says in the manual to use Showa fork oil. The front end bounces around so much that I have had to back off the preload and damping to minimum just to stay on the thing. HELP!!! Is the oil type really that critical??
Brian.
depends on the quantity (measure the height of the oil) and the weight of the oil (usually 7.5 for road ducati's so I am told by AK)

Best write up on Showa rebuild I've seen yet:

He recommends 300cc of 5W oil.

Thanx for the replies. As I put 440cc in each leg I think I will drain them down to 300 and see how it goes.
Cheers Brian.

Ignore the quantity, the important thing is the oil level - it should be 108mm from the top of the fork with spring and spacer out. A 5wt oil is best.

Thanks Derek, I'm beginning to understand how these things work.
Cheers, Brian.
