after caning one of my fzr600s for four solid days in blistering temps in spain i have the following probs -

white smoke out of exhaust when cold and when warm but revved hard
blackish fluid dripping from the exhaust join where the can meets the downpipes - seems only when cold
losing oil - quite quickly

i am thinking

rings
valves
maybe a fuelling prob

what do i need to look at, in what order and will i need to remove the engine from the frame?

i have another engine i could put in but it is from a race bike and currently has no starter clutch so would need to swap that over

also the 'oily' bike cost me £300!! so i dont want to lob loads of cash at it

thanks

White smoke in the exhaust is coolant, oil would make blueish smoke. So perhaps head gasket has gone. You say its using a lot of oil though..

Shoot it, replace with Ducati.

what would the oil down the plug hole do andy / tell me?
head gasket - not thought about coolant - will check it out!

Do a compression test. Squirt some oil in and do it again. If the reading goes up then its a rings problem, if it doesn't then its a valve or other problem.

excellent
cheers
i am thinking rings - if head gasket that would be cool
if rings the engine gets binned !
