View Full Version : side stand?
Can someone please tell me how you modify the side stand on a 748 to stop auto lifting.

On my 916 the side stand is help on by a long bolt and a nut. A metal plate connected to the return spring pushes against the said nut and causes the side stand to auto lift.
The nut acts as a lock nut, as you can not do the bolt up tight, or else the side stand will not move.
So what I did was remove the nut, bolt and then the side stand. Cut down the bolt so that it does not stick out proud of the inner face of the side stand.
This means that the plate on the spring does not touch on anything any more, and therefore does not auto lift.
I then put thread lock on the bolt to take the place of the lock nut.
I assume this is what everyone else does :)

Nelly at Cornerspeed should be able to sort you out with a modified plate that avoids the nut on the back of the stand bolt and stops the stand flicking up
The other alternative is a stainless replacement sidestand bolt from Brancatto engineering, that does away with the nut on the back and is secured with lockwire
Coxy, before asking about the mods i would ask for the correct torque settings, that way this one might not fall off!
Also change your avatar please, that yellow hurts my eyes!!
You use the plate and nut off the later bikes with the switch on the stand. Costs about a fiver for the pair :)

Yeah, I had my 888 converted to non-flip up 'cos I didn't really trust the flip stands to stay down as I got off the bike.
But, that's not ideal as I like the bike to be on the stand when I get on it, since it helps my stumpy little legs swing over the seat if the bike is canted towards me - plus of course there's less danger of slipping and dropping the bike.
Trouble is that when I'm on the bike you then need double jointed ankles to hook your foot around the stand to flip it up again.
I know what I need - a non-flip stand for when I get off and a flip stand for when I get on
