Hi Guys, some info from some of you racers, is there a direct upgrade replacement rear caliper for the road 996 ? also what options on rear floating disc have seen a few on the race bikes but are these babies available to fit to the road bikes ?

Before you all say, I don't use the rear. Some people do and by choice.

Many thanks Chris.

I think AP do a rear caliper with a bigger pad area not sure if its a direct replacent though, the race Brembo ones that I have seen so far don't fit onto the standard caliper.
as for the rear floating disc, not sure how much it would actually improve the braking without being a larger diameter, only really seen them on race bikes where the weight saving is a issue

Brembo also do a rather sexy 4 pot rear caliper but it goes out the door at over 500 beer vouchers and needs a bespoke caliper mount as well.

Chris,

If you are just trying to improve the rear brake I just fitted some FA47 EBC pads,

They appear to be very soft and wear out very quickly but they actually make the rear wheel rear slow down, even lock it if ya want to without standing up on the brake lever!

about £12 - 14 a set

Ray.

I'm not sure of the spec's but apparently you can use the 'prillia RSV rear caliper and master cylinder. Both use bigger piston sizes. I'd guess the rear caliper is a 34mm (ST?) rather than 32mm and the master up to 13mm from 11mm??
The discs and caliper on the RS monster are also bigger so maybe a parts bin raid could sort it? You'd need the RS carrier to though.

The pad option Ray mentioned maybe worth a look at to, along with maybe a wavey type disc?

Thanks for the info, will look into pads then will check out what calipers will fit.
Cheers Chris.
