I'm changing the final gearing on my 748E and I've used 'Gear Commander' and other calculators to derive the new chain length.:D

I'm going to increase the number of teeth on the rear sprocket from 38 to 40 teeth giving a new ratio of 14/40 (stock 14/38) to get better acceleration and to compensate for the larger diameter sprocket and maintain the same amount of chain adjustment increase the chain length by 1 link from 94 to 95.

Just before I order the parts I would like to confirm that the new sizes are correct, has anybody done the same change and any comments would be appreciated. :D

I run 14/40 on mine BUT you will need a different sprocket carrier. The chain should come with additional links that you can take out at will.

I've got a carrier and was going to order from B & C so I can specify the correct number of links just making sure I was right before splashing the cash

You can only get chains in even number of links. The length you need is 96.

Thanks Nelly for pointing that out its obvious when you think about it, which I obviously hadn't, hopefully there will still be enough adjustment to get full life out of the chain.

you might want to check a tech article i added to upnorth Tony http://www.ducati-upnorth.com/tech/gearing.php its one of Shazaam's posts on suggested gearing and chain length.

Thanks Gizmo, interesting point about the ride height as well
