View Full Version : 8xx and SS gathering 2007 - with Pictures
I know it's not even Xmas day, but with plenty of notice, I thought a few more people would be able to get a pass out.
After Frank managed to get the SS mob out a few weeks after the 8xx gathering, I thought it might be fun to get a bigger, old school collection and do it on a single Saturday.
Same date as last year suit, 9th June? Idealy, it needs to be when there are no BSB rounds and this meets that criteia. The reason being that I have asked John Hackett if we can gather at his place and, not only has he said yes, but he's thinking of biring out a couple from his collection to join us.
Plus, if we're all very good, a surprise or two.
Rgds,
Rob

I have! So much so I put my 4v bike into retirement a couple of years ago. 2 valves and air-cooling is the way forward IMO

Hi,
I have created an entry on our club calender for this event here (http://www.ducatisportingclub.com/calendar.php?do=getinfo&e=83)
I have also posted on the events on the ducati.com sites for this, I’m just waiting for approval. I thought this would be a good exposure for the club. Once Ducati have approved this, I’ll link it to this thread.
How many people are now going? :)
Oh, and please can someone submit some 888/851 and SS pics, I need a better resolution then the one I have used (Rob B's avatar!).
Hi Everyone,
I had planned to come to the t8 meet.
But last night a fellow member of the other club, posted on the e-mail list spare tickets and a berth in his time share for the 'TT'. Sailing out on the 2am boat on sat 2nd returning on sat 9th.
Perfect dates and all at face value....Top man as he could have got a small fortune on e-bay.
So i'm going to miss the t8 meet which is a shame as i was looking forward to meeting up with you all in person and seeing all those great bikes....and showing of mine to be honest.
I used to be a 'TT regular attending more than 10 times but haven't been since the late 80s, what with it being the 100th' and being fully booked since last year i'm chuffed to be going.
I hope i can meet up with 851neil on the Island. Seeing his great bike would go some way towards making up for missing all of your bikes.
Trouble is i can't decide which of my big Dukes to take, i'm sure people here will say take the 851.
But i've already had some e-mails saying to take 'Beverley' my "78 900ss based special.

Iīm jealous as F... I registered myself for race training in Poland last year and canīt back out now otherwise I would have made the effort and come to UK for the meet. I canīt wait to see the pictures and wish you all a super time and good weather.

Please mate, mark.traves@ntlworld.com
Don't worry about Toseland, some how I don't think Ducati would like that picture on their site, or allow it!!
cheers.

Hiya,
I hope to be there - enjoyed last year. Have mentioned it to a couple of 851 owners too trying to swell the ranks yet further.
Unfortunately BFM in Shipley decided to fail the discs at the MOT for being too loose  . Despite repeating discussions with various people at Stafford Show who insisted that they shouldn't fail, I couldn't persuade BFM to change their opinion.
So, not having Ģ520 spare notes I bought EBC ones instead and now John is struggling to fit them because they don't seem right for the bike - something about getting in the way of the Speedo cable.
So, if I can get this fiasco sorted out I will be joining you - if not, I think it would be just too sad to turn up on my GPZ500
If anyone has any experience/tips about fitting EBC's to a Superlight I would be really grateful to hear from you.

Hiya,
I hope to be there - enjoyed last year.
Judi
you are not alone with this problem, many off us have suffered with it, I renewed the bobbins even though i didnt need to and went to another mot station that knew what they were doing, problem solved.
it's not just SL owners that are afflicted by this problem, it affects any duke fitted with the cast iron 10 bobbin full floating disk. SL's SP SPS's etc. if it full floats its going to shake rattle & roll.
it pays to be persistant with the mot's. providing the disk your going to retro fit are the same size and offset, and thickness , you should.nt have any probs fitting them.

Looking at the first post, is 9th June still the date?
If so, although my social calendar is usually fairly thin , I am double-booked that day.
Does anyone know what time kick-off is on the 9th - I'm guessing most would aim to arive around 10am, or maybe 11am...?
James.
Frank,
When I kicked this off I posted it to the DSC, DoC, Ducati 851/888 board and Ducatisti.
It's a sticky or in their events lists.

Rob

I reckon 11am'll do it for me..!
OK, I've just been confirming details with John Hackett and we're all set. Apart from all our loverly 851, 888 and SSs, there's going to be some other really nice eye candy there. You'll have to be there before they disappear later in the afternoon.
More on the final details when I get back from my France trip.
Regards,
Rob
You shouldn't have been bothering John this afternoon Rob-you'll have been stopping him working on the Twinspark...........
John
It looks like there'll be plenty to drool over at JHP. A Super Mono, one of Capirossi's GP bikes, A Marco Lucchinelli race bike and a display version of the Desmosedici GP engine.
Please be aware that these will be packed up in the afternoon as they need to be transported to anther show. Arrive before lunch to admire.
Many thanks to John for laying this on and letting us use the facilities.

Rob

Just out of curiosity (in case I get to watch my buddies at the Mallory TD the day before) does anyone know of bike-friendly (re: secure) B&B near JHP or Mallory by any chance?
Cheers - Frank
Frank,
I can recomend a place in my village, Swinford in Leicestershire, if that is close enough for you. I am about 18 miles from Mallory and the same from JHP. The village is very close to the motorway so pretty convenient with a good pub. Secure parking in my garage if they don't have any.
Here is the link anyway. Its called Ravendale.

It was a great day thanks, the sun shone, the bikes looked lovely-there were several comments about never having seen so many 888's in one place.
Oh, I nearly forgot, and John Hackett handed out ear plugs all round and fired up the DesmoSedici...................

Great day !! And nice to put a few faces to my fellow 888 owners !!!
Big thanks to Rob for sorting it, John Hackett for hosting it (nice pizza and fresh coffee !), and the big man upstairs for bringing the sun out !!!
Great seeing the 'sedici being fired up (cant believe someone has actually BOUGHT that - exactly how it finished last seasons race at Motegi !!!) and fascinating listening to John on how it rode round Mallory !!!
Some flash harry SP4 owner will be along shortly to tell you about John Hackett giving him a corse fleece for best bike - lol !! Congrats mate ;>)
Small moment on the way back down the (empty) fosse way - gave it a right handful to clear the cobwebs and my ruddy satnav came off the bracket !!! Luckily it wedged in front of the instruments so no harm done.
See you all soon

Another set of thanks to Rob for organising it and for John Hackett for his generous hospitality. I'm not sure if John got a lot of sales out of the day but he certainly got a room full of smiles when he started the 990. If he'd revved it any higher I think those fairings hung from the ceiling would have blown off their hangers!

First thanks to John and the team for the great welcome, hospitality and 'sedici entertainment, and second, for all of you for turning out and making it a great day. It's aways great to meet folks that we chat to via the boards, more so, surrounded by great bikes and in glorious weather.

Guys
I really enjoyed last years meet and was looking forward to today, ( It would have been only my second ride this year ) bike prepped taxed, fresh insurance and full tank, wife took day off work to look after kids....and then 3 days of really bad sore throat turned into really bad cold and a head like cotton wool and dizzy spells. Sense told me it was too risky for bike riding so I spent all day feeling very sorry for myself laid out on the settee.
It makes me wonder if someone is trying to tell me something and maybe after 10 years she should go to a better home than I can give her.
Glad you all had a good time and thanks for posting the photo's.

Guilty :)
Story is I wanted a black one, to be different (there's always one eh...), managed to source another set of bodywork to paint, my original mint red panels are residing in the loft! Does suit the bike well, I was so pleased when I bolted them all on.
As I said in my last post, I have some more good pics of the day but can't seem able to post them up, the server is telling me they're too big and need re-sizing. I could email them to you Frank and you could post them?
Here are some piccies of the big day, including one of the famous black and silver smoothie machine (nice one RSF..!!).
Hi,
I missed the meet for reasons previously stated (can't be in two places at once).
My question is how many 851/888's turned out? I'm not bothered about the other early models,( although they are very special ) just the 8 valvers.
It's not clear from the pic's.
