Went for an MOT today and failed on my bars. They are Renthal clip ons that have been on for a couple of years and gone through a few MOTs already. Admittedly on full lock the foam around my clocks is deformed and you can't use any of the switches, but the tank isn't fouled and I can still hold onto the bars.
Have I just gone to a jobs worth tester? Has anyone else fitted clip ons and found a way to avoid this problem?
Will I be better off just fitting the original high bars again?
What would happen to the geometry of the bike if i dropped through the forks and fitted the clip ons above the top yoke?

Cheers,
Jim:(

what about if you wind out the steering stop screws so that the bars don't hit the foam?

Need more space between the tank and bars as well on full lock so only half a fix. Have decided to refit the originals and see how low I can mount them without fouling anything.

Had a brain fart and thought about the stop screws again. Tried winding them in all the way but no joy, then thought about trying some bolts I had lying around. Found a couple of longer ones that fit and they seem to do the job. Now to try the MOT again!

Job done ???

A tip I remember to make the steering stop a little 'softer' is to screw some plastic tyre dust caps onto the bolt ends.

I had a few split on me and it can be fiddly but it does feel nicer :D
