I've managed to fit my trackday fairing to the bike with not too much of a problem.

All I need to sort out is a seat pad.

The options are

1. To take the one off my road seat but if I do this I will have to cut a big square out of the trackday seat unit, will this weaken it as it is only thin fibreglass?

2. Get some foam and make a seat pad and stick it on

I think option 2 would be best but where can I get the foam from. Is there specialist foam out there for the job ?

you can do option 2 with a foam sheet from a Race Supply place - Dennis Trollope or maybe Demon Tweeks etc.... but these are really not comfortable.

As your seat is thin f/g, I'd go for option 1 and cut a hole in it, this is a better option IMO as the seat pad sits on top of the subframe and there is no stress on the thin f/g seat unit. With the foam pad, you're putting a lot of weight on the seat unit and it may split.

... and here I was thinking that maybe a Novice spot has opened up for the DSC jaunt at cadwell .... nevermind ...

Good luck getting your seat sorted though :saint:

If going for option 2, go to any good master saddler (for horses) they will have lots of different types of 'flocking/ neoprene/ high impact foam' types for you to choose from.

Ahhh .. too fast for me then ROACHMAN. I'm still wet behind the ears on the whole track day thing. Yet to get out ... soon though, oh yes, it will be soon ...

I made a cardboard template to cut out the f/g seat unit and then took a grinder to it and made a reasonable job. You will probably need to extend the mounting points at the rear by about 16mm or so to use the seat catch thingy.

Wheelspin,

I'll take your advice. Looked at trying to buy a second hand seat pad from a breakers but they want silly money so ill have to use the blue one off my road seat

James I have a grp one with a foam seat.
couldn't really get on with it that well and reverted back to my old damaged seat unit with which I swop the pad over.
You are more than welcome to the grp seat at cadwell if you haven't got it sorted by then

been using Technosel seat foam on the race bike for a couple of years now, its stuck onto the Carbon seat unit and has never been a problem.
I also have a GRP seat unit that uses a foam pad. it is good quality fibreglass and is moulded with the supports in the underside of the seating area so that you can add the rubbers pads that you find on the bottom of the original seat, this allows it to distribute the riders weight evenly so as not to stress the fibreglass.

And NO it is not for sale as it will probably be on my road Bip for the track day.
