Found a place selling it for about 1100 quid, includes termi half system (I'll sell that :D ) 998R ECU and 998R camshafts.

It will cost me max 400 quid after I sell the half system and my 45mm silmotors, and nets another 12-15BHP from 5500rpm onwards - anyone know any downsides to doing this?

Obviously I'm not putting the cams in myself

DJ, I believe you have got to increase the bore and shorten the stroke as well. Plus maybe injectors.

We must be thinking of different kits mate - none of the tuners (JHP, AJR) I have spoken to reckon I'll need all that;)

Then your not expecting the same performance of a 998R

Nope, but with an engine balance, flow n port, and blueprint it wont be far off 140-145 :D

Got some titanium rods to go in there too :sing:

998r IS a bigger bore and shorter stroke!
I am wondering also about valve size, compression ratio etc etc.
I dont think youll achieve what your looking for with just cams and an ecu.

If you fitted the cams, what timing are they going to be set at? all sorts of unknown questions. Maybe the 998r/9r (there the same) cams are the same as a 998s, youd have to look at the open/ shut/ lift timing for them.

If they are a higher lift then they might strike the 998 piston?

I think thatll be a scrapped idea then.

Now there is a 998s cam kit that fits the 998bp to raise horses?? Its in the dp catalogue?

Andy, they're listed separately as 996R/998R/999S spec cams!

Same for the ECU!

Ah well as long as I get power wheelies in 3rd me no care

DJT,

Just stick BIG sprocket on the back if third gear wheelies are wot you're after!!

The usual suspects can sell ya some BHP, sigma, JHP, Nelly, AJR, and a host of others.

It looks like only the upgraded cams MIGHT be any use in the kit???

What bike are you starting with??

Its a Bip putting out 120 at the rear, ducatis dyno chart shows a 13 hp gain with the kit

Would probably sell the half system and buy a Sil Motor 45-54 jobbie, as I'm not too impressed with Termignoni's supposed "quality"

Is it worth putting in the ti conrods I have lying around?

seems like a good shop mate.... im interested in a few things there at those prices!

And as you say it lists the cams as that.. apologies....

Don't know if you have factored this into the price but you might get caught for a wallet full of duty when buying stuff from outside the EU

US price plus 10% then plus 17.5% VAT

various ways round it tho' and you might be lucky.

If I wanted a bit more power out of a 998bip I would pay a visit to any of the tuners I mentioned below, might even be tempted to do a few cheap mods myself and them have the engine set up properly. eg TPS, fuel trimed/power commander??etc.

The experts could advise on things like removing the mesh from the air intakes, the bungs from the air tubes, some open pipes, and anything else that may help without costing a fortune.

Ray.

Ray, I've already removed the mesh from the airintakes, removed the bungs, put 45mm slipons (now a termi 1/2 system) and powercommander with a custom map, as well as a pair of pipercross filters, this has only netted around 5HP (actualy haven't dynoed or remapped since the 1/2 system).

This engine upgrade kit will cost around 1120 all in, and net another 10-15hp - I should be able to sell my 45mm slipons and termi 1/2 system for at least 600, so its basically costing me around 500+labour (needs a service anyway :D) for another 10-15hp. Not bad eh :D

Roy I would be interested in the outcome if you go for the upgrade, as I am currently building my 998 Hybrid which is using a 998BP engine with a full 50mm system at the moment but alread have the 50/54mm half system and ECU.
I'm hoping this will give me more than enough power for the road when set up correctly, but if a decent amount of extra ponies doesn't cost to much I may be tempted.

DJT,

You're already ahead of the game, may all your extra horses be strong!

LOL! Ray, I just need to know if its worth putting in the titanium rods i have, they look in mint condition but is it risky to reuse them? I mean although they're used they still have to be stronger than a pair of 18,000 mile thrashed steel rods surely? :puzzled:

Kev, we'll have a proper chat about the engine kit and what I am planning, when I pop round to do my ride height if its still OK - you busy tomorrow? :D
