Guys, From regular sound testing experince I expect that they are sick and tired of people frigging the 45 degrees at one metre test and then opening it back up on the track. You'll probably find that 80db is a drive by test. If your deemed to be too noisy as maeasured as you trash past the noise metre, game over. They where going to bring this into our sport. Fail the noise test on a competitive run, no time recorded. Why don't you check with the entries secretary. He/She'll be able to clarify. Rgds, Rob |
I think you would be unlucky not to be allowed out on standard pipes. But then I'm not a Jobzwurth. |
If it's a drive by, like at Donington's gantry, then back off or upshift before. They also have a hand held meter and if your pipe says "not for road use" be prepared to get your jacket. Check as per previous posting. Tim |
These noise restrictions are a royal pain in the backside. A friend of mine was given a Castle Combe Track Day as a birthday gift. He checked up and found it was a legal cans only day. He duly fitted the standard can back on his RSV. Got there and failed the noise test. Very common for big twins to fail even with legal cans. If they test at Rocky for TA3 most of us are going home very unhappy bunnies. |
I don't do track days, but it seems absolutely ridiculous to me that a bike could possibly be banned from a TD when running stock cans!:flame: And I can't believe how calm and phlegmatic youse guys are about it either! As Yeti says, "jobsworth" is the term here! If it was me I'd be spitting blood. The only "drive-by" these guys deserve is the sort with Uzis! [Edited on 4-9-2004 by moto748] |
Is there a dB limit at TD3? Tim |
Not sure about that, you might want to post in the TA3 thread about that. I do know it's supposed to be a noisy day and there are plenty of big bore systems kicking around on DSC bikes - that will be running. |

I think you'll find the answer is NO!:D:D:D About 95% of us would be going home if it was! |
The Rock is miles from human habitation and within a 3x sided oval bowl, so I'd have been very surprised if there was a dB restiction. 'sides, what's a Duke with out Termis / after market cans fitted? Hope the 749 / 999 brigade have junked their end cans with all the EEC cats inside as they really sound unique with Race Termis fitted - makes the older 748 / 996 bikes sound lazy and off the pace and they really "bark" with every twist of the throttle.
