bit harsh............riding a bike on the road is clearly very hazzardous and something that most of us dont HAVE to do. if you decide the best place for it is on track only thats up to the individual imho. |
One doesn't have to drive either unless it is for a living. The point I was making was that biking is no more dangerous now than it ever was. Of course it is all a matter of personal choice but I do find it strange reading someone advocating people to give up road riding on a motorcycle club message board |
Ironicaly more people are killed at DIY in the home each year than are killed on motorcycles in this country.
Have you also given up driving walking using electrical appliances and all the other things that kill people every day?
|
Clearly we need to legislate DIY out of existence and introduce home 'safety camera's' to catch illegal plastering etc and make sure these people go to jail for the rest of their lives! Think of all the innocent children ... and the little fluffy kittens .... |
Always sad to hear of a bikers death and I hope his family or relatives do not grieve too long. We always get out there with a little bit of risk involved and sometimes we forget that the whipsnake is always waiting somewhere to strike us. This should reinforce our determination to drive super defensively and within the limits of the situation at hand....dark, wet streets, limited escape routes, heavy cross traffic, lots of animals around, etc. I was flinging my old A-7 Kawasaki around some very deserted road outside of Carmel California one night and came face to butt with a big bull in the road. The brakes on the Kawa were not the best, but I still avoided corn holing the monster. Taught me a lot about overdriving the limits. Again, sad to hear of the death and sorry to hear Lily had it happen so close to her place. |
Ride as if everyones trying to kill you. Despite how much we would like to kid ourselves motorcyclcing is dangerous. It doesn't matter if its on road or track its still dangerous, Isnt that part of the attraction though? Safety kit for car users has improved a huge amount compared to bikes. Biking in the UK has allowed itself to be marginalised to the point where some paid up members of the nanny state would have it banned, given the chance. We are speeding, noisy maniacs who need protection from ourselves. DIYers are just trying to improve their home etc, no demonic connections and trying to make some is difficult though not impossible. It's hard to say what exactly happened, as we both didn't actually see it, but the road past my house is notorious for speeders, as the road leads out to a country road/national speed limit. When I got home last night the surrounding lamp posts had flowers etc attached, what remains to be established will be the root cause, whether the bike was speeding or not, but I guess from the way things looked the driver of the car was turning across the road, so I assume some blame will fall on them, I am merely speculating. I wish his family well, and hope his death will cause some changes to the roads near me, as he is just one in quite a long line who have either died or suffered serious injury there since I've lived there. |
Hate to say it but a guy died up the road from me on Monday morning. I live just off the A1 and heard sirens Monday, nothing unusual in that, was going North 1/2 hour later so pulled onto A1, after about a mile the road was blocked with solid traffic, I did a u turn through a small turning and went round the back roads. It gave out on the trafficline system that the road had been closed. Read the local paper tonight, front page, a guy travelling on the A1 had a fatal with a car by a notorious turning from a village, car driver (a woman) is critically ill in hospital. There are several small villages off the A1 near me and the turnings to them just come straight onto the duel carriegeway with no filter lane at all-death traps. Since it was stated that the biker was on the A1 it seems most likely that the car pulled out infront of him.........what can you say, it has happened to all of us many times. Be careful out there guys and girls. John |
