Is this extra scalloping supposed to be visible to the naked eye, bolds?

Not long ago I had a look at both wheel types (R type and ordinary) and I couldn't really see much of a difference...

You can definetly see the difference on the front wheel if you look at the spokes side on they have a scoop out probably 5mm depth for about 60mm length.

I think its the same on the rear but on the inside of the spoke

Not certain if there is a difference on older models, but the ecu etc is under the seat where the pillion pad would go, so surely when the subframe is changed that would also need relocating?

Don't forget to change suspension settings as well as its gonna make a bit of a difference having extra weight at the back.

The part number of the rear wheel rim on both the S and R model is the same - 502.1.022.1AA - for MY2000 and MY2001.

There isn't a parts manual for the 998R online, but the 996R uses the same wheel as the S and R model.

The part number changes to 502.1.023.1AA for a MY2003 748R, but there's no indication in the manual whether this is a different wheel type (ie, special / lighter) or just a superceeded part.

So unless you have a MY2003 748R you've got the same wheels as an S model.

Anyone got a part number for the 998R or can look up the difference between the MY2002 and MY2003 wheels?

The front wheel rims are also different - MY2000 and MY2001 748 R and S have 501.2.020.1AA whereas the MY2002 748R has 501.2.045.1A.

Again, no indication of if this is a different wheel or just a superceed part number.

I have put a Bip subframe on my 2001 748R. I change the mono seat unit to a Bip one in about 5 mins.

There are a few differences you need to be aware of in terms of parts.

These part numbers only fitted to these models which have the lighter wheels

That's odd - completely different to the Spares Catalogue on the Ducati website!

Hmmm...this makes me i bit confused...:puzzled: Does it mean that I can not use my standard 2001 748R rear wheel? or just that I only can have skinny girls on the backseat?:bouncy:

Difficult one as stated before the wheels on 748/998R were never homologated for pillion use - but in practise who knows !
