Jasper If your off to Italy next week, contact me with the guys bank details and i will pay it for you from my German bank account, you can pay me back in Italy :)

Either that or send an IMO (International Money Order), Its basically a cheque made out to them in their currency.

Problem is it costs you to have one made up at the bank!

Jasp,

I have sent cash by recorded delivery. That sort of amount I would chance putting it in an envelope. I would say the biggest risk is the recipient saying they have never received it, rather than it getting nabbed in the post.

You must be able to find someone with a few notes left over from holiday. If not Marks and Sparks seen to be offering the best rates at the mo' get a bag full then go on a biking trip to Europe with what you don't use!!

Ray.

Jasp,

My bank allowed me to send a personal cheque made out to a seller in Germany with the amount in Euro's no problem. Worked out OK that time.

Good luck - Frank

If you think that's bad.....

A mate of mine lives in Dublin and wanted to do a bank transfer to someone living in Rome.

So, that's Ireland to Italy. Euros to Euros.

And the bank charged him EUR15 for the pleasure!!

Now how's that work? There's no currency handling fees, there's no exchange rate to worry about, it's all done electronically. If the currency is the same what's the difference between sending it within the same country and sending it between countries?

Banking is a rort, a farce and a bloody ripoff.

And I've only just started (don't even get me onto sending money back to Australia)

You also have to take into account each banks rate of exchange, they are not the same i checked the current exchange rate from Euro to GBP and instructed my bank to send that amount to my Bro in the UK to pay for my new bike, but his banks exchange rate was not the same and i ended up having to send another 150 quid :(

But on a lighter note Jasper has found a solution to his problem and its been delt with :)
