Used to regularly "do" the ring as a rally stage when I lived in Germany, never done it on a bike, and never in daylight either!!! Must put it on my "to do before I die" list. :sing: |
WOW YETI i would love to do it in the dark!!!!!! scary........................:lol::lol::lol: |
It was! The old BAOR (British Army of the Rhine) used to slot in with local german rally clubs and do various rallies with them. The group that ran the ring was always a very popular event. We used to run it one way at the start of the event, then in reverse at the end, usually just as dawn was breaking. Sadly by that time you were usually so knackered, or the car was, that you just limped round. That said it still scared me witless! [Edited on 25-1-2005 by yeti] |
been there twice, prefer the surrounding roads, really nice. There is a bend on the Nurburg which has the caracell (sp) concerete banking which you drop into, get it right and massive grin, get it wrong and armco barrier it is. saw a couple of crashes there on bikes and one car. If you cause an accident and the ring is closed you pay for lost time, that can be very very expensive. Will be going back this year, oh yes, the bitberger is awesome, a very nice beer. |
Hmmmm, the Ring-got to go there again soon, awesome place. Don't know about Clarksons 147 corners-most people reckon the ring is 73 I seem to remember-Mav?? The one corner I REALLY remember is Adenau Forest-lots of people get that one wrong and end up grass tracking-Mav can tell you all about that one. Think I will have to get my 'ring handbook down and have a little read........ John |
Dead right monty (JOHN) lots of myths about the place if i remember 13.6 milles 76 bends! and one fast lady called (sabine) in the ring Taxi i went in it with her WOW the lady can drive ;););) the next time i saw her i was on a 98 R1 flat out thro Phlugplatz ! and she came by me round the outside Waving with one hand whilst broadside in a 4 wheel drift :lol: bloody awsome:D i do get a bit sick of reading about all the bullshit about the RING I'ts a great place to go and it's a must do BIKE or car!! safety is the key Good Briefings work just like you give MONTY on a track day!!! If you think you will learn the ring in a day you will be sadly mistaken:) i've been doing trips out there for 6 yrs now i ride the ring every time and i still cant put all the bends together !!!!! just come along guys and enjoy the buzz! The BEER THE ATMOSPHERE and the fact that cockem bends The 258 mayhen to badmunsterifel etc etc are some of the best biking roads in the world! hope to see you out there this year John ;) ........mav |
Now you're talking mav, the Cochem bends and the surrounding roads are awesome. However the Ring is a must do thing but very intimidating - at least you know where the interesting bits are by the number of spectators. I've been a couple of times and will go back again, probably not this year. |
